Can you guess how much this pony weighs?

Ps. He was returned to me yesterday so the fun starts today!

Goodness, that neck looks very solid! At least it looks like you have suitable grazing for him!
Difficult to see his height but I suspect it could be more than 300kgs on a weigh bridge as his girth measurement wouldn't take into account the neck/ bum/ hay belly!

I would say around 330/350kg. Can you weighbridge him (and let us know) or are you weigh taping. I manage to keep my shettie x sec a who is 10.2 and quite fine at around 270 on the tape and she doesn't look as .. erm... round as him!!

The weigh bridge at the yard doesnt work at the moment. I'll pop a weigh tape on him later so I can keep track of what he is losing but it wont give me his true weight lol!

OMG! He's Humongous, how did they get him into that state? Good luck with the slimming regime, it's obviously an urgent matter!

HOLY CRAP! On the weigh tape he is 340kg ...

Very very unamused!

The thickest point around his neck is 99cm ...

And round his back to the lowest point of his stomach is 173cm ...

I said to the loaner that he was too fat and needed to lose some weight. She flipped her lid, said he was absolutely fine, no lammi this year unlike last year and he was on a diet. The diet was in at night with hay and out in a big field of good grass during the day apparently.

EKW i feel your pain ! i've got my two minis out on loan to a friend for the grandkids, they went to him having been suitably slimmed down over the winter (they've been on starvy 1/4 acre paddock for the last 7 years). sadly after a good start and a warning they will get laminitus if they get any fatter, you guessed it, one of them got the dreadded Laminitus. thankfully it was a wake up call for him. after around a week off the grass and on soaked hay they came right again, they have been slowly introduced to some very restricted grazing again and i'm hoping when i pop over this weekend again they will be a lot slimmer (its been about 6 weeks since last visit) its so hard to not pop over every week, but he's promised me he's not given them any more grass and NO feed so i'm hopefull they are now looking a little slimmer.

it is easy for them to pile the weight back on quickly so i understand how difficult it is but why of why do people not follow instructions. i'm sure you told your loaners not to over graze / feed, but they always think the ponies are starving, they are designed to survive off little/no grass where they originate from so they think they've gone to heaven when we put them in lovely green paddocks !

hope he looses some weight soon, mine love being lunged, i used to drive my other little one when he was alive, thoroughly enjoyed it :)

Blimmin eck - some people just need a good slap. How can anyone think that is acceptable. Good luck with his diet. Will he walk out next to you on your horse? I think it was lots of walking out that helped my fat boy loose weight.

Nah the big horses play too much with the little ones so I would get no where! He has been backed, I backed him 4 years ago before he went out on loan. I'm guessing he has done nothing more than the occasional walk down the road and back since. The plan is to get back on him, get him trimmed down and schooled up and then find him another loan home - hopefully a pony club home where he wont get the chance to get too fat. The plus side to this is I have people always asking if I have a ridden Shetland they can have so I know there are plenty of people out there for him. Thank god I didn't sell him!

I will keep you all posted on his progress!

I have just weigh taped the mare if same height and build as the gelding, who I think is now in 'show condition' (well actually a fee kgs more than ideal show con!) weigh in at 263kg. And that's me thinking she's too fat lol! She is positively trim compared to the gelding!
