Was cleaning gypsy out this morning, moved some shavings and came face to face with a massive dead rat! It was obvious that gypsy had either stood on it or rolled on it. Now we do have poison down so maybe it was already dead before she did this.

Im glad its dead, the thing has been a pain, its been really brave. Stood about watching us, ive been so scared that it would attack me or one of the horses.

They are very nice lightly toasted in butter and garlic!

Ive had mice but never a rat, all i could do was scream and send OH in to retrieve it.

Hmmm garlic and butter, might try that one if i find another one lol

I've had a couple of "floaters" in the water buckets before, nasty! Best ever was our lovely TB mare (RIP), she hated them and would stomp on any that came into her stable. She was more effective than the cat!

The worst experience I've ever had is when one fell out of the stable rafters, landed on my shoulder and ran down my body. This was one seriously BIG rat too. I think the whole of Cheltenham heard me screaming!!!

My old horse Ollie would oftne stamp on any rats that dared to enter his stable and being 17.2hh warmblood x cob it must have been a brave rat that tried it!!! Not much left of them after he had finished LOL

Ok I didn't find this in my stable but one summer my ponio was living out and there was a duck in his field making the most awful racket. Anyway after charging at the said duck a couple of times my pony got really mad and was standing there staring at him giving him the evil eye and swishing his tail and stomping alot!!! Anyway when I left the field for the night I had a quiet word with the duck and warned him that if he wanted to be alive in the morning then to vacate the field!!! Needless to say on returning in the morning the poor duck was flat with a huge hoofprint on his back ...... I did try and warn him but couldn't help having a giggle as he did have every opportunity to leave the field. I guess he was up for a fight.

I'm always finding bones in my stables - the terrier's favourite hiding place for them! I did once find a half eaten rabbit in my bed one day - another terrier's hiding place.

Well after trying to catch the rats I've got in my hay barn with humane, and splat traps, and the poison, so far it's been the dustbin of water half filled and sprinkled with oats and straw that someone on here suggested that has 'caught' me 2 rats.

Mind you, I didn't realise for ages.

Thought it about time I changed the water as it was starting to pong - those oats going off or so I thought.

Tipped the dustbin on the yard and out whooshed 2 very dead rats. They'd sunk to the bottom and been there for days no doubt.

Dustbin has been reprimed and ready for action.

Dad suggested I use my poop scoop rake to scrape around in the water to see if there were any more drownies!

Yikes!
