Ours (at retirement) are laid out in a diamond type of pattern to add stability and then straight at the bottom where the passage doesn't need to be so wide. You can see in the deepest mud last year how amazing they are!

Looks like a pallet of mud control slabs to me. I have now laid six pallets of them down and if I had some spare cash even more would head my way.
