Dear Diary
Do you remember me?! It’s been so long I can barely remember me myself…..
So why have I been so lax of late and what’s been happening?

Well the short version of the story is as follows: Dad and mum must have done things that a young boy doesn’t want to thin about because mum ended up in foal. Because she was in foal she didn’t ride me and Aunty Sammie has been riding me for most of the summer. This has met with my approval because Auntie Sammie is very “yeehaa”! and likes to hack out loads, canter loads, jump loads and generally do all the fun stuff with none of the boring schooling work. She and I are totally on the same wave length in this respect and have only fallen out about her crazy insistence on going out alone and on the time of morning she thinks it’s acceptable to get me out of bed…….

Anyway mum had her foal a few months ago although there was much drama as the foal came very early and was very small and needed to stay in hospital. Mum didn’t even push the foal out they had to cut her open to get it out! Personally I think this proves what I have always known – mum is bad breeding stock. Anyway the foal is now fine and has been to see me a few times. She’s very small and makes funny noises so to be honest I’m not entirely sure about her. Mum informs me I am going to teach the little one to ride and she’s going to take me to pony club camp. This bit appealed as I always find ponies to be very adoring of me and thus I might find a new bird – even if she does have to stand on a box….

So mum started to talk about getting back on board again (do I look like a bus? “Back on board” indeed) but then my granddad that lives in Spain died so mum and dad and the foal had to go to Spain for a while. Its was very sad and I felt very sorry for mum who lets face it ha not had the best of years.

So Aunty Sammie has continued to ride me out and to be honest I am probably fitter than I have ever been in my life. I am a rippling mass of muscle, a big chunk of brown hovis, a fine specimen of manhood…… well ok the vet and mums saddle fitter have sad I look great but I might be taking it little far.

So after mum got my saddle checked earlier this week yesterday was D-Day. Mum has sat on me a few times but professed to wobbling about all over the place and generally not doing a very good job. She blamed something called a C section but I did want to point out she was hardly Carl Nester before this section thing. I did however wisely choose to keep my big mouth firmly shut.

So yesterday mum decided that a lesson was in order and the boss lady arrived. God help us all. That petite lovely lady who has looked after me all summer turns into Satan as soon as you say the word “lesson”. I was made to ensure 45 minutes of head in the right position, working from behind, bending, flexing, circling dressage hell with mother panting in my ear hole like a dirty phone caller chasing Usain Bolt. By the time mother fell off the side of me (well something that inelegant could hardly be called dismounting) she was trembling from head to foot and I was soaked in sweat. “Yeehaa-ing”! with Aunt Sammie is SO much easier and much much more fun.

So a compromise has been reached and Aunt Sam is taking me out at the weekend whilst mother continues her quest to turn me into a dressage fairy again. I love my mum but god I had a fun summer without her……

Oh Hocus I'm pleased your back, Friday morning has just brightned right up!
I really hope your mum is yok and feeling better and the foal is growing up big and strong (she will have to be if she's going to do pc games on the destroyer!)
Good to have you back matey!!

Another one who's missed you Hovis and am really pleased to see you back and in fine form by the sounds of things. Please pass my best wishes on to your Mum, Dad and Lily the foal, glad everyone is doing well now, it has indeed been a tough year so far!

Yay! That's proper made my Friday! Welcome back Hovis and best wishes to all the family. Personally I think your mum is being very brave to get back on such a big strong boy who's been hooning around all summer! You must look after her very well (although you don't have to work too hard at poncing about because trying to persuade you will help her to get fitter).

Yee haa indeed Hovis!!! Good to see you again and glad Mum getting "back on board"... bless. Pleased to hear foal doing well too! Keep us posted Hovis!! xx

Personally I think this proves what I have always known – mum is bad breeding stock.

Are you saying she isn't very well bread??

Good to see you back Hovis, be a little considerate of your Mum and remember she needs to be fit to heave all those sacks of feed around this winter!!

Lovely hearing from Hovis, very pleased you are all doing well, as a pony club mummy, can just imagine the nervous twitch your pony club chief instructor is developing at the thought of Hovis in her lead rein ride!

just found out that you are back - how i have missed your weekly updates - hope your mum and her foal are doing very well - i think you make a cool dressage fiery (rather than fairy..... :) )
