Okay, you know people say add 2 hands onto the height of a yearling... 1 hand onto height of 2 year old, etc.

My question.... do you take the tallest measurement (ie: bum in this case at 14.2hh) or just use the wither height (14.0hh)?

I've tried all the other methods but he has short canons and the tape (mid knee to coronet band) suggests he'll make 14hh! Duh. I don't think so. Same with ergot to elbow measurement. Hmmm.... *Scatches head*

He's Connemara (14.1 dam) by TB (15.2 sire). I'm expecting 15.1 hopefully! But the more the merrier. :)

I'm used to a tall 16.2 horse and this little chap just seems TINY. Mind you, less to groom. Lol

No I have never heard any breeder say that ^^

I generally have a good idea of what size my foals will all make without the use of string tested etc. I can tell when the foals are born every year whether they are going to be bigger/smaller than that particular mare's previous offspring.

I've had the odd one, when using a maiden mare, that I've not really known what height they will make so with them I just hide them away for a couple of years and then take a good look at what I have in front of me; that usually sets me on track with being fairly sure how tall they will become.

As a breeder I was told yearling at 15hh would make 16.2hh its one hand from yearling to two year old then they say an inch from two and then another inch up til 5

I guess it must depend on the breed as well. My youngster was 15h as a yearling and he is now 16.1h at 2 and a half. I'd be very surprised if he only grew another inch. He is ID cross though.
