I’ve seen a few people advertising guided rides on your own horse and wondered if anyone knew what insurance is needed to provide this service? We have great hacking around us and my horse is an excellent nanny so might suit someone with a young horse/ someone wanting to build confidence. Thought it might be a good way to meet new people too but assume insurance must be needed if you’re providing a service you are getting paid for?

Don't quote me on this but I believe the insurance situation is less stringent (than for a riding school, for example) if you're "only" offering the guiding service and the person being guided is responsible for their own horse. Can you find an established group and ask them how they manage it?

In addition to the liability insurance - you may also need to check your own horse insurance - as your use will now being paid. Potentially similarly for transport if you're boxing to start of rides.

Thank you for the replies.
I have messaged a couple but no replies - not sure whether they’re worried I’m stealing business, although the ones messaged aren’t in the area so they shouldn’t but maybe they’re busy.
I’m a BHS gold member so maybe I could ask the BHS?

I doubt I’d do ££10ks worth but a few would be nice

Our Bridlepath group does guided rides for a maximum of 6 at a time. All have to be members of the Bridleway group, the ride leader does a Risk Assessment and everyone taking part has to give contact details in case of accident. The BHS also has to be informed that the ride is taking place, for insurance.

A group together is a matter of a few friends going out, once you start charging it becomes more complicated. Unless it is a "voluntary donation."
