I trim my guinea pigs nails little and often. Went to give them a trim today and noticed one of my pigs is missing two nails on her front foot and her nails on the other front are very short and stubby, her back nails were normal.

There is no blood, hasn't been any blood on her bedding, she hasn't showed signs of being in pain and there isn't anything in her cage for her to get caught in.

I have no idea what has happened. One of her missing nails was split in two and twisted when I got her so have been trying to trim it a bit each time but doubt it had much of a quick. They are now in a 5x2 cage with a loft in the house, I check them constantly during the day and sit with them but they aren't massive fans of being picked up.

Going to take her to vet tomorrow to be on safe side but wondered if anyone else had experience of this. Her sisters nails were all fine.

I have no idea what has happened.

She might have caught them on something - this happened with one of mine once only I saw it happen and saw all the blood! It took ages to grow back as well.
Do they run about a lot? It could easily happen if she was racing about playing.
