I am not so sure how I feel about this but yesterday I found some interesting news aout about my new mare.

I contacted the old owners to ask some questions about her and something came out that had not before.

I asked if there was ANY chance that she could be pregnant and this is when they tell me it is quite possible.

This had not been said before

Many people at this point are perhaps thinking "Great! Two for one!" well now I have to tell you what had got out and was exposed to her........................................

A donkey

It appears there is a 50 50 chance I may have a spring mule

They said a shetland stud was around her too but I am skeptical that little thing could have bred her unless he was on a hill or VERY motivated.

Not was I was hoping for. I had planned to breed her...obviously to another P.O.A. ( Pony of the Americas) stud , but this was going to be down the road. I really wanted to have fun with her and enjoy her this coming summer.
I suppose it will be a little blessing and I am sure we will love the goofy little thing so I will keep you all posted.

I am going to see about having her checked when this crazy weather clears up. So will let you know how it all goes.

Wish me luck
Anyone have any experience with mules?

From what I know of them they are hard workers but stubborn and brash with bad attitudes!

What will I do with it!?
tongue.gif
It will be a large pony size I suspect

How exciting! Mules are lovely and have an undeserved reputation.

They often have hybrid vigour and so end up larger than either of their parents.

If you were in the UK your mule foal would be more valuable than a pony foal as mules are quite unusual here.

Well I can tell you that I have seen them trained to jump and even perform Dressage on many occasion! lol

there is even a show on TV about a trainer who works with mules and she makes them do anything a horse can do. She even petitions to have them allowed in the horse shows.

Every one I have been near seem grumpy and like to kick though

Maybe I will sell the baby on HHO next year and have it shipped to live a life of glory in the UK!

Ring her and ask if she wants another one

I used to have the pleasure of riding a mule when I was abroad for a while and he was a lovely natured boy. I schooled him, trail rode with him and he never grumbled. He was quite an affectionate beast and had a lively but kind pleasing personality. Their backs do take some getting used to after being on horses though if you ride bareback.

In the war the soldiers peferred mules to horses to carry equipment as a horse gives up before it dies but a mule will keep going until it drops dead.

Ooops!! Gosh I did chuckle though - how unfortunate for you
smile.gif
. I'd be praying that it WAS the shetland who got her and not the donkey.

I love the big SMILE after "how unfortunate for you"

I AM happy to see you on here though!

I have really missed you in SB!

How is the baby training going? Where do you work them? We are COVERED in snow and ice already here so am doing little with the horses.

It is lovely up here - beautiful and white fluffy snow coming down as I type.

I guess it is above zero centigrade at the moment so quite pleasant. I am inside because I've finished outside for the day and daughter has a little friend staying over, so thought I'd quickly catch up on here.

Ach, you know me and my smiles
grin.gif
. I love to use them appropriately

I haven't been down to Soap yet - it's a bit daunting really as there are almost 6,000 unread posts

I've been trailing the youngsters out. Been in the arena a couple of times, but really they are doing pretty well out in the back hay fields. Haven't had them up the forest yet as it is a bit icy in the depths of it as it is so dark in there, so I will wait till it melts a little. The next few days are showing plus temperatures so hopefully it will make it easier for them. I've had my big guys up there and they are fine; the trails are totally passable but I don't really want to take youngsters up there while it is slippery.

How's it going with you? All set for Christmas? I've finally finished my shopping.
cool.gif

Sounds like you are doing a lot! I know who I am sending my mule to for training! LOL!
wink.gif

I have pretty much finished my shopping and begin wrapping tonight! I normally leave it until Christmas eve
blush.gif
but have learned my lesson about how much I hate that!

LOL!! I have to say, I do admit to spending a fair amount of time with the puppies though
blush.gif
. They are just the most delightful little things and I am really taken with them.

Mules make lovely ride and drive animals, and they are not stubborn and bad tempered. Ask Jinglejoys on here (she doesn't come on often though)

I wil stick to my donkeys though

You know, after reading all this, you'll be really looking forward to your mule.... So I hope she is actually pregnant! BTW the only mule I ever knew was very clever and made a living working in films.

I didn't know that but definetely believe it, he was very much a pleaser and when some of the others were flagging because of the heat, he hardly broke a sweat. I would have a mule no probs and lovely they are, although they can be very attached to their dams, more so than the average.

Thanks for the info.
