As in the title really 😁

Erik is 6 months old tomorrow and is entered for his first couple of shows.

I need to get him a show lead really, I’ve done everything upto now with just a rope slip lead. I was thinking of getting a nice rolled leather slip lead to show him in, is this ok/the done thing? I’ve never used a chain on him or really had need to, he’s pretty good with heel work in not too exciting environments and at ringcraft 😂

I’m a complete showing numpty/newbie so any advice very gratefully received! He’s a German longhaired pointer, if that makes any difference.

Yes round leather slip lead. Essenjay make nice plain ones of good quality. In flatcoats we use brown for liver dogs and black for black dogs. A little bit of bling is beginning to filter onto the leads but not sure for a GLP so maybe start with plain

Here is a link to their website. Personally I wouldn’t get the narrowest for a puppy but probably the 5 or 6 mm . If you are happy with the length of your slip lead you use for training then go with a similar length. Give essenjay a message and I’m sure they will help

Fab, thanks so much 😊 will drop them a message now. I like that it’s a little company and all uk made too!

Springers all on a rolled slip (4mm, black with a brass ring). Mine come from France so probably not much use to you with customs!!

I got the terrier's leads from Rabart Canine (rolled leather semi check) as they will make exactly what you want to order (Black, brass chain, extra long handle so I can drape it over my shoulder when he's on the table) cheaper than Essenjay and they comeover and support Irish Champ shows, so happy to give them my business.

I'm ridiculously fussy, I think it comes from my love of proper leather headcollar with brass buckles. :D I much prefer the look of brass if it suits the dog.
