Over the last few days I have had to clean one of my girls eyes, she has had yellow gunk in the corner and rather crusty around the corner too, both eyes this is in, they are not blood shot and she is happy in herself, just has gunky eyes. I have cleaned them with warm water and she is happy for me to flush the eyes out, but what else could I do for her, they are improving. The vet is coming tomorrow to do routine jabs, so was going to get them to have a look at her. Thankies..xx

Could hay be falling in to her eyes?
Is she out on long grazing?

It has been windy and wet - so could be somethind to do with that perhaps.

The little yearling at our place has similar in one eye at the moment. We just do the same as you each day to be honest.

My horse always gets this through the summer, very mild eye infections not sure the cause but suspect flys or possibly a reaction to pollen.
You can buy a tube of cream from the chemist called 'brolene' and this clears it up, also comes under another name (golden eyes I think) which is exactly the same stuff.

I use optrex to wipe the eyes and then put in golden eyes, available from chemist. My mare suffers every summer, I think due to the flies.

She is out and yes grass is rather long.
Did wonder if the wind has got to them....
Think I will carry on as I am, seen as they are improving.....but might just get the vet to take a look tomorrow, they are the sort that if they think what I am doing is doing the job then they will leave it.....
BandJ I will have a look at the chemist for the cream, worth having some in...... cahill...I will try the teabags..........

Thanks everyone.....

As your vet is coming tomorrow ask him to have a look. My old pony used to get conjunctivitis from the flies. Vet gave me a cream to put into the eyelid and it always cleared up quickly. I used to keep a fly mask on her in the summer in the latter years of her life and this seemed to help.

She was just very sensitive to the flies.

Could be the start of an eye infection - your vet with probably give you opticlox or you could buy some golden eye from the chemist as that works well too.
