Some of whom served in the British forces for over 20 years and many who havemedals for extreme bravery are being refused the right to settle in Britain and also equal pension rights with other soldiers.I think this is absolutely terrible. Don't know what anyone else thinks. Those who retired AFTER 1997 are being allowed but not others.

I remember reading about this last year, I think it is disgusting after the way the older gurkhas fought to the death for our Commonwealth

Funny how we let endless shite come here and claim benefit and claim benefit for imaginary children abroad and yet here we have decent citizens who have served Britain and we refuse them, bloody disgustingly typical for this crap country, look after everyone but our own

It's another example of this corrupt and immoral government picking on an easy target, I'm afraid. They prefer to make examples of decent, honourable people than taking on and sorting out the dregs of society.

It's about time Labour were seen for what they are - hypocritical a*sheholes lining their own pockets at our expense - and voted out.

Couldn't put it better myself!

It is absolutely rediculous, we owe them so much.

However on the flip side, the parts of Nepal where the gurkhas origionate are finding it difficult to survive without returning gurkhas to work on the farms while the young men are fighting for us (or India, or Nepal itself).

Many of them fought with and under my Grandfather and later my Father. In many ways I am glad that neither are here to witness this - it's truely atrocious!!

These people have put their lives on the line for the UK, and carry on doing so. To wash our hands of them now - it is utterly discrageful.
Are the government giving any reason as to why these people are being treated in this way?

The reason for the Gurkhas receiving sh*t pensions is that after the partition of India, when most of the the Gurkha regiments were transferred to the Indian Army, the British Government agreed with the Indian Government that both would pay the same pension. The idea was that that the British would not be able to "outbid" the Indians for recruits.

However, that is no excuse for the disgraceful treatment of British Army Gurkhas by our government. They and their families should be given automatic British nationality (if they want it) and residency upon completion of the minimum term of engagement.

The same should apply to any commonwealth service personnel
serving in HMF. It was little publicised, but UK Gov cracked down on Commonwealth service personnel a couple of years ago and made them either accept British Nationality or be dismissed. F'ing disgraceful and an insult to the Aussies, Kiwis, Tongans, etc that proudly serve in our Armed Forces. but who wish to retain their own nationality.

Britain accepts duel nationality, so no one would be asked to give up their own nationality would they? I thought that most if not all commonwealth countries are the same (e.g. Canada) Being asked to take up an additional nationality is somewhat different to giving up your own. Not saying that it is necessarily right to ask them to become citizens (but I would wonder why you would be willing to die for a country, but not be an official part of it) but it isn't the same as giving up their heritage.
