Ok, I'm over the moon, finally got in H&H magazine this week after great success at Petplan area festival at Myerscough and after a big picture and write up, they have made a massive booboo, they called Vincent a gelding when infact he is entire!
Asked them if they could put a correction in next weeks publication and was told they don't do corrections?????????
This is quite important to me as we have a stud and he is a big part of our business, I know all publicity is good publicity but I can't help feeling very bitter sweet!!!!

Firstly well done!!!

I'd go back to them - there was a correction a few weeks back. They ran a story one week about Mary King and her daughter being the first parent / child combination to represent their country (or something along those lines) and the next week there was an apology and a correction that it was first achieved by Mark Todd and one of his kids (could be quoting the wrong person here:rolleyes:!!)....so they do print corrections!

Ian Stark maybe?

10 points to Loobylu!:D:D - I have just dug out my pile of old H&H's and it was Ian Stark and his daughter Stephanie.

Original story was printed in the 15th Sept issue and the correction was printed in the 6th October issue - so took a while but they do print corrections.:)

I have thought that could be one way of correcting the mistake but I'm not holding out much hope, waiting for another reply off someone after I begged they put something in next week, but they have already said no.
I wouldn't mind too much but when I was interviewed I told her he combined stud duties with competing and he was bought to replace the appaloosa stallion we lost!

A friend of mine was totally misquoted after an "interview" this upset previous connections of the horse.
H&H said the same they do not do corrections, obviously they do if you are Ian Stark, they have however given her several write ups since, these have been correct, and another photo has been in.
I would be pushy, try and get one of the reporters on side and they may give you a correct write up next time. The other thing to try is writing a letter for publishing, thanking H&H for the report and take the opportunity to point out the error.

I'm a journalist and I think you have very valid reasons for requesting a correction and you should push for more. Speak to the editor.

And actually, ethically, they are obliged to. I'd simply quote the Leveson enquiry to them, and its basis for enquiry which is journalistic ethics.

They are now saying they only do corrections in exceptional circumstances and they don't feel this is one! Apparently it isn't damaging to my business as they haven't mentioned the name of my stud. Absolute joke.

I would then write to them with a short letter to the letters page and demand that they print that. If it were just a slight typo on the age of the horse or something I can see why they dont want corrections but if someone knows of you and is looking for a stally and sees the photo and then is disappointed to see he's a gelding, then that is lost business and they should have more regard to journalistic accuracy than they are having.

God, anyone would think we were still in the days of manual typesetting, when it might have been a problem. They only have to change the text on the computer before the mag goes to the printer for goodness sake. Jobsworths!!

Shame. I'd love to know how the editor can justify not correcting any mistake that is made.

Good journalism clearly isn't alive and well in Horse and Hound.

It's quite shocking actually - especially given the environment that journalism currently finds itself.

It could be very damaging! There very well may be people that have their eye on him for there mares - if they read it, they very easily could just assume he is now infact a gelding and strike him off their poss stallion lists!
I'd tell them a few porkies back that you have had messages etc that people are upset that he is now a gelding as they were planning on using him!

I really think they definatley need to do a correction for this one as he is a stallion, who stands at stud - hence - business! (after all, they class stallion owners as business people on the breeding forum on here!)

Hi

So pleased you are getting things put right. I too was a little shocked to read that Vincent had been gelded. I have had 3 beautiful foals by him all with lovely temperaments and was sad to think that others would not have a chance to use him on their mares. Well done in qualifying he is a beautiful boy ,

Janet.
