My horse has just come of anti-b's and bute following a puncture wound that caused lymphangitis in a front leg, have started to do nice long road work hacks to get him back fit to play for the summer. Borrowed a horse for my mother dearest to come with me and on the way home beaslet skidded down onto his knees (in particular the one that is punctured anyway!) and carried on for a bit..leapt off to check and hes scraped one knee, looks like claw marks, taken the skin off the other and has more scrapes and holes on the front of his fetlocks. Led him home, he isnt lame but am terrified thats it for him or at least his summer. Hes bandaged up, dressings on everything and the vet is down tomo am but Ive never had a horse fall properly underneath me, or seen knee injuries except for kicks/wire runs.
............?

Poor pony.
Will send my three girlies to cuddle him if he'd like?

Please. The mare he hacked out with is currently turned out in the YOs garden, and Scooby has the back window of his box open to flirt! The more the merrier!

Ok, will post my three horses to you in the morning...how much bubble wrap and brown paper do you need for a 16.2 Shire X anyway?
Seriously, my TB mare did exactly the same once, slid along on her knees on the road....and she wasn't even lame!
She's still fine...and now 18....the sliding helps absorb the impact although it doesn't make the wound look very nice.
Hope your postman's feeling strong!

Bubblewrap? Well at least she will float if the rain holds, will roll ot the welcoming commitee...Thanks, a bit of humour is what I need. Its stopping the bottom lip from quivering! Glad to hear about your girl- the skid was amazing I thought we had taken up skateboarding..*quiver*

My girl did it on the main road outside the bowling green...she had her brow dabbed by about 30 granny and grandad bowlers...who kept asking me for about 2 years how she was!
They also asked me why I kept her blindfolded (a fly veil he he he)
Hope your boy did it somewhere more discrete...
Try not to worry...equine knees are quite well engineered..

aww poor thing, its horrible when they go down, my boys done the same but fortunately only on grass so no lasting injury- tried knee boots and they were rubbish and ended up round his fetlocks - they were brown leather ones and completely useless.

Thanks, the vets just been and thoroughly cleaned and checked him. Hes not lame, but hes back on bute and anti-b's! I have a drug addict for a horse! He also has blue holes in his legs from where the oxytetra something spray was used. Spent most of the visit trying to lick and nuzzle the vet, he is obviously trying to get cheaper treatment. Thanks for hugs, vet will be back monday and thinks its not gone through too far but can xray/scan for peace of mind..
