My boy went back to his owner on Tuesday after I lost my job and couldn't keep him. Really gutted about it.

Not only did he immediately revert back to how he was when I first got him with his owner around (A bolshy, bad mannered, pig headed tank!), but I then find out that rather than finding him another home where he is going to be used and enjoyed, she is sending him to an animal sanctuary where he shall be stood in a field getting fat.

I know that at the end of the day he belongs to her so it's up to her ultimately what happens to him, but I just can't help feeling it is such a waste of a cracking lad, who had already come so far in the short space I had him.

I'm just feeling totally gutted.

when poppys old owner came anywhere round her she did the same turned back to her crazy bolshy ways, she was terrified of her

funny how they remember all these things.

but because they do remember, he will remember all the fun he has had with you and will never forget

that sucks.... and i know it must feel awful for you - could you not talk to the owner and try to explain to her how good loaning him out would be for him and how benificial it would be. It wouldnt cost her anything if he goes out on full loan to someone and its like going to a sanctury in that she has to do nothing and it wont cost her anything but it will be benificial for another person to enjoy as well as the horse itself? Or get her to sell it to someone...

But i feel gutted for you, at least if it goes to a sanctuary though you can go visit him.

He just knew straight away he could walk all over her. And he did. Literally. I had a few issues with his manners for the first couple of weeks but he really settled well and was such a lovely natured lad and so much fun. I've been well and truely bitten by the highland bug after him!

Yeah I'll be able to go visit him, problem is it's going to make me upset seeing him going to waste. I'd really hoped I'd be able to find a job rather quick and have him back but that's not gonig to happen if he's at an animal sanctuary

The animal sanctuary will perhaps loan him out if he's up to a job, but they keep ownership so he's probably lucky to be going there - It should be a home for life. If they don't loan him out, he really won't mind being wasted in a field, its what all horses would choose to do if we left it up to them.

I woudl explain your situation to the santuary and see if they with let you volunteer there, and then you can continue his rehab and enjoy riding him again. I'm sure if you mcuked out for them they wouldn't mind. Unless its too far away?

I was going to suggest the very same thing. Surely a sanctuary would be excited to have a volunteer come and excercise him?
