There is a large field near my house that is owned by local gypsies. And OMG they have some amazing trad. type horses in there. I walk by twice a day to and from work and I just have to stand and admire sometimes. AND they take fantastic care of them, always in good condition, feeding in mornings and evenings, round bales of hay in field.

I don't know why I'm posting this really, just to say it's nice to see this instead of the pathetic scraps tethered on grass verges.

I'm in love with a big chunky lemon and white cob with feathers to die for. And there's a gorgeous black as well.

you lucky person to be able to see that :)
I drive past 10 acres of very poor grazing which (currently) holds just over 20 pretty poor, mixed aged, coloured traditional cob types. There is old trucks & rusting machinery among them, 2 round hay feeders (been empty for the past month) and plenty of weeds but not a lot else  This is right on top of a very pretty village - and on a very busy main road.

Our local gypsy ponies are very well looked after as well - pregnant too young, but good condition, feet look OK, always hay and clean water in the fields. Even poo picked (sometimes!). I chatted with a man in the field the other day and he said he was "fattening" them for showing off at Appleby. Lovely little herd.
