I was wondering if anyone believes in the gypsy tricks. At my old yard there was a man who put oil on his horses mane, tail and feathers as he said that it makes it grow nice and thick.

Anyone else heard of this and does it work

Yes he would be using pig oil - great on manes, tails and feather. When mixed with sulphur it provides protection against skin problems and mites and keeps feather white.

I use it on my gypsy cob and clydie all the time - not expensive and works a treat for preventing mud fever.

Motor oil can cause cancer. we used to use old sump oil for oiling hoves years ago but dont anymore as its carcinogenic. Pig oil is clear and is the stuff to use.
