Hackamore as a noseband?

I saw a pic earlier of what looked to be a bitted bridle with a hackamore used as a noseband

Only one set of reins though which seemed to be connected to both bit and hackamore

Curious as to what this set up would do, whether it would give extra brakes or something. Not saying its right or wrong it just seems odd somehow - the pic isnt clear so of course i could be wrong and its an unusual sort of noseband

Yes like that except the hackamore arms were the wide flat type. It looks like the bit is a very narrow snaffle, the end of the hackamore arm is linked to the bit with a strap and the reins attched to this (look like pelham roundings if that makes sense)

Teamed with spurs the whole thing looked quite severe but the young rider did look very competant and i guess it works for them

Shysmum, if you're referring to my post then the ebay link is nothing like the bit shown in the photo of Hickstead where he has conventional cheekpieces to a relatively simple eggbutt snaffle with a sliphead to the hackamore, linked by roundings.

It's not something I would ever use on my mare - but I would rather imagine that with any bitting / bitting combination, it is the hands that are using it that will determine whether it is a severe set up or not.

It looks horrific but I actually like the idea of the German hackamore and a snaffle, if used sympathetically. Some very forward horses hate bit contact and are hard to steady without getting in to a battle, I can see this would save that kind of horses mouth and keep them more comfortable.
