Hackamore holes

Completely out of interest - does anyone know why there are 3 holes in english hackamore irons?

I thought they were like air-vents? 'Cause the cheekpieces cant fit through any of the holes.

Do you mean the 3 round holes in the middle. I suppose for decoration, ventilation and to keep the weight dowm.

LOL!! I thought she mean't the 3 holes on the top of the hackamore in the leather strap

Yes I guess they are for ventilation.

I think its to reduce weight in the bridle
