i have had to use one recently for the first time in my life as my horse has suffered from mouth sores - i have been warned that they are very severe so im as light as poss in my hands and as their noses are so sensitive i wrapped the noseband in sheepskin ! he went ok in it, i managed to hunt him in it too struggled to stop a few times and steering not great - the one thing i did find is as the day went on hunting he learnt if he stuck his head down there was absolutely nothing i could do to stop him ! but yes i would use it again and i hack him in it as much as possible to save his mouth !
I have a VERY strong pony, pulls like a train, i have controll of him in the hackamore, i also have a sensitive pony {you could ride him in a headcollar} that found the hackamore to much, any presure of it, he would throw his head in the air.
