Hackamores & Martingales

Does anyone agree that an English Hackamore can be used with a running martingale??

Never seen this before but met a girl today who insisted it was OK and that some showjumpers use hackamores with running martingales..?!

The hackamore works on a leverage effect, and also has a strong head lowering effect, so in most cases you wouldn't need a running martingale as well. In fact the martingale coming into play would reduce the leverage effect on the poll so very confusing for the horse I'd have thought.

i am sure i saw a couple using just this at burghley at the weekend for show jumping. Sorry can't remember who. My daughter would know who but is in bed I'm afraid.!!

Yes it's fine to use a running martingale with a hackamore. Probably won't need it though!
