I am looking to purchase a house with some land in the Barton St David’s and was wondering what the riding was like. My blu is good on all tracks, roads etc. A real old man in a young horse. We are moving from Outer London and have little knowledge on the area. I was wondering if there was anyone who rides round the area and recommend some routes to explore. We are looking to purchase a property down ‘Blind Lane’, which does have a restricted byway. But anymore information would be greatly appreciated!

It's a lovely area- I'd get an OS map and have a proper look at the routes. Unfortunately the area is very horsey but not brilliant for riding, you're a bit hemmed in by relatively busy roads and the railway line. It,s close enough to the Mendips and Quantocks though that boxing up for long rides is always possible

That’s a shame re local riding...there seems to be a few restricted byways etc. When you say busy roads, how busy do you mean? I’m used to pretty busy roads where I am but really want to escape all that.

Well the A37 is quite high traffic, the local roads carry a surprising amount but not what you'd call busy I guess. I wouldnt ride long stretches on the main trunk roads between the villages personally. I have a friend that had a horse killed on the Butleigh road.
