My boy has been diagnosed with a dodgy SI and i need to work on building the muscle in that area on his left side, he is very Asymmetrical.

He is fit to ride but we cant do very hard or fast work, and he really, really hates the school!

Many thanks

I would have said use a chambon in the school on the lunge but if that's not an option I don't know - considering that a De Gogue is meant to be the ridden version of the chambon, could you use that at all? Do you have a field that you can you flatwork instead of going in the school? I'm only guessing at all this as I have a SI problem pony and we are in our 8th week of chambon exercises in the school...and are starting to see the benefits... Good luck with it though.

Hiya, I've got a horse who tore her Sacroilic lig 5 weeks ago, as yet she is still unrideable. What about longreining? Lunging in a pessoa?

Have you got a physio involved. There are lots of in hand exercises you can do in the school which involve just walking. You need to do lots of walking and not too much hill work for quite a while. I still tend to trot up steep hills as it is easier than walking.

When walking out you really must work him up to the bridle and you may need to wear spurs. I didnt use gadgets at all because IMO they can disguise the problem. But that was my choice. My horse didnt like the pessoa when she was reallly bad but would probably be ok now. You just have to try different things to make your horse work through his back, using his tummy muscles. I also found lessons with a good dressage instructor invaluable but they have to understand the nature of the problem you have and many dont.

He wont like the school because it hurts him. Stick with lots of walking. I find that i have to school at least twice a week. I dont do every day as it is too much for her.

Initially i did one day schooling, one day hacking, one day physio, one day hacking so each hard work session was separated by an easy hack. I was advised not to use hill work as a main way of getting the horse fit.

And to give you hope, I did my first dressage today since my mare was diagnosed with SI last year and she came third against some very nice horses.
If you want your boy to get better you really have no choice but to school him. or he will just be a happy hacker. If thats all you want to do then just hack out and enjoy him. Just dont go galloping up hills!
