hacking in dressage saddle?

I hack in dressage, as thats all I have, I guess it depends on the hack. When I am going for a blast I'd rather be in a more jumping style saddle, but for a trot round the roads schooling dressage is comfier and better.

i do too

i find them much comfier than a gp, pop the odd log, ditch, stream etc., in mine too, but if i was going on a fast cross country hack id probably use a gp

I hack in my dressage, including fast hacks and little jumps. It is my "everyday" saddle, and I only used my event saddle if I was specifically going to jump.

If you want to do serious jumping, I think you need a flatter seat than a GP - so I would go for a separate dressage and jump saddles. If you are only going to do a bit of jumping, then perhaps a GP or a WH. If more jumping than flatwork, maybe something more designed like a VSD.

I always hack in my dresage saddley - loads more comfy and secure!!

im going to go against the grain

its a personal thing though. the one time i rode in a dressage saddle on a hack i got bucked off in front of a car haha. now i only hack in a GP

Since I have to hack to get to a school or a show, I hack in my dressage saddle quite often. But if I'm intending to go fast/worried about extra spookiness, I use the GP and ride with short stirrups.

Think carefully about getting rid of your GP...when you're schooling, do you focus only on one thing (i.e. flat vs. jumping), or do you mix exercises? I often find myself attaching a short jumping session to a flat session, for example, and it would be a pain to have to change saddles in the middle.

Blimey BSJAlove that must have been terrifying!

I hack in my dressage saddle but then I dont jump or do fast work. I have a wintec GP for the use of doing that but havent summonsed the courage yet lol.

so, perhaps dressage it is... sadly wintecs don't fit my daft shaped horse cos i love them...

I hack out in my dressage saddle as my mare doesn't have anything else. I even went on a fun ride in it!

My friend couldn't believe how I managed, but it is the comfiest saddle I've ever sat on, and me and my girl rarely go particularly quickly so it suits me perfectly. My legs also feel like they're round my ears in a GP!

I would think it's whatever your comfy riding in, I use my Jill Thomas endurance saddle as long hacks is what I enjoy and do, I use Dressage leathers for my stirrups with the Tbar as I find it so easy to adjust and no pinching or buckle lump under my thigh, I ride with my stirrups long whatever I'm doing, just started using flexi stirrups this week, seem to be ok, for hacking I dont see why you cant use whatever you want as long as you and the horse are comfy and feel secure, it's like saying you should always get on and off on the same side, bollocks to that, I get on and off either side to suit the situation, nothings written in stone except your grave stone

I'm looking into buying a dressage saddle as that is what I mainly do but am hoping to be able to afford a GP too so I can still do jumping and I did think i'd feel more secure hacking which occasionally includes a fast canter in a GP rather than a dressage saddle.

I do all my riding in a WOW dressage saddle. No 1 daughter also does RC type in in where she has to jump a small jump. I have been known to have all 4 legs leave the ground at once a few times........not very high though.
I also show in it. It's lovely.

Always hack in my dressage saddle and have been known to pop up to 1m in it to break up a boring schooling session with no problems. My jumping saddle is flat as a pancake and is close contact so don't normally use for much flatwork. Dressage saddles are so comfy for hacking but I have also had a working hunter saddle (bit of a saddle fetish I'm afraid!!) and that was ideal for a bit of everything.

and i broke in a 10 year old anglo in a half panel show saddle with no knee rolls, hacked and jumped, god i was glad when she muscled up and fitted in to my dressage saddle, knee blocks, bliss

I am going against the grain and hack in my jump saddle! The dr only comes out for events

and occasional schooling sessions. With my girl now I will only ride in my jump saddle for the time being

Hacking, jumping, schooling and everything else in the dressage for the cob - it's the only saddle that fits him!

GP on the oldie and whatever comes to hand on the mare (cob's dressage or her GP)
