I'm just wondering how people choose to hack out?

I like to hack alone and then sometimes in company.. ie if i'm going out and so is someone else we sometimes go together.. so dont really mind either way however I'm sure she prefers other horses company to just mine :shock:

sometimes i like the companionship from Ron, and don't need anyone else, but sometimes I like to have someone to chat to, and for him to have someone to party with.

I like to hack out in company for a good natter, but my freak of a horse prefers to hack out alone.

I try to mix the two, but have to be on my toes if I'm in company!

I put number 3, but I'm hoping by the end of the summer I'll be able to hack out on my own. I like going out with others sometimes but I find it a little restrictive - if I'm on my own I can go where I like and canter if I want to etc

I prefer company as whilst Spring is lovely company her conversation is far from stimulating! I do take her on her own as well though as I think it is good for her to be independent and able to go on her own, although she is usually a bit sillier!

I put no. 4 but if I wanted to have a good work out I used to go alone and do loads of trotting and canter work as she was not so strong when she is on her own.

However, do enjoy the fun and chat of being with others.

I didn't vote because I do both - sometimes I like to chat and go for a long hack, or I want company because it's windy and he is spooky on his own. Then other times I like to be by myself, mainly to concentrate on my beast and it's good for him to go out alone!

I normally hack out alone as I'd rather go out early in the morning whilst the traffic isn't too bad, and most of my yard like to go in the afternoon. It also means I can suit myself about where we go, and at what speed.

Me too! He is okay is just a very small group, any more and he thinks he is hunting

He had only ever hunted before I got him. I thought he would prefer company, but he seems happier alone.

We can hack out with one other, but any more than that and he's a right arse! And heaven help us if we hack out with his favourite mare and another gelding.....

I like to hack on my own early doors before the rest of the world is awake. I sometimes ride with others but find I am not to keen on the pace been dictated to by every one else. Its also seems to take other folk an age to tack up and they are never ready at the time quoted so do my own thing most of the time.

Things will change this year as my other horse will become riding fit and a friend will be riding out with me so weekdays the horses will go out every other day me every day but on the weekend I will have company so best of both worlds.

I usually hack out with my OH, and at weekends we will have a couple of others tag along. I enjoy the horses interaction with each other and the slightly competitive atmosphere is good for bringing on our 6 yo.

I do like to go solo too, but H is still a bit funny about going too far, so it tends to be local jaunts. I will extend that over the summer, so that I have a complete choice, but we both enjoy a silly Sunday ride, with lots of cantering and a few jumps.

My horse has a companion at home, but he isn't ridden, so I have to go out alone. He is OK in company though, but we have to arrange a special occasion.

I didn't vote because I do both, I like hacking on my own as I can just get on and go, but since I fell off hacking in Jan I've been a bit nervous so I try to go with someone or OH on his bike. Hope to be back to normal for the summer.

Generally I'd rather hack on my own, I like just heading out and doing what I want. Sometimes I'd like someone to ride out with, but because I never think to ask anyone, and I think everyone just expects me to go out alone, I very rarely get to ride with anyone. There's a lovely lady at the yard who's taken me on a longer ride and that was great, but I need to get Ronnie fit again before I can do that again.

When we were on DIY I used to hack out alone all the time because me & my 2 horses were the only ones on the yard. Sometimes I loved it & sometimes it was awful, dep on how spooky Cat was feeling.

Now we've got our own place, there's no direct access to bridleways & the nearest one has 7 gates on it, none easy to open, so now I always go out with o/h on his mountain bike. It's company, exercise for him plus I feel a lot safer & he can do the gates!!

With Hovis being young we're only going out with other people at the moment but would like to get that we can hack alone.

I prefer going out with company although just recently decided i may be better to go on my own as everyone i hack with has fallen off

starting to think i am bad luck

I do anything, my boy behaves the same whether he is on his own or with someone. I do like to hack with someone though as I enjoy the company, but if there was no-one to go with then that's also fine!
