Hello, I'm wondering where everyone hacks that has there horse on Ringley road. I only know about the nature trial, but don't feel the ground is very good there, very limited areas to have a trot or canter. I would like to find some fields to ride in. Thanks

I used to livery up there. Clifton marina and country park is fab, the ground was always pretty decent especially along the gallop track next to the motorway although the flies can be bad this time of year. Have you been over to Moses gate on the opposite end of prestolee road?
Which yard are you on?

Well the easiest one is to go to the road at the top, turn left. Take the next left, steepish hill, (ringley old brow) follow it down and turn left at the bottom (past the horseshoe - used to be a nice pub) Follow the road through the village, past the sewage works towards Giant Seat garden centre - you can have a drive along this bit if you want to have a little recce first. Just keep following the road. Then as you come to Giant Seat follow the road to the left past the barrier and along the side of giant seat. You just sort of follow the track along the river until it turns to the left and opens out a bit to a sand gallop track. It is almost but not quite along the side of the m60. Stop when it starts to go uphill as there were low hanging branches further up! Turn left at the top, and it takes you back along to the back of Heaps cottage (you sort of ride up the hill to get back there) Or you can carry along there a bit and get out at Yew tree farm - just over the road. If you ride on a bit there used to be a nice sort of sandy track up there too.

Or you can go under the motorway alongside the river and across in to the country park and just sort of explore in there - lots of tracks and open space.

Moses Gate is the other way entirely and I would suggest getting someone to go with you who knows it - it's got all sorts of potential for getting a bit lost! Basically come out of heaps, turn left down the main road and turn right up Prestolee road. Go along to the other end of there, you turn off past a farm and go over a bridge and come out in another big country park - there is loads of space in there.

If you find Prestolee road there is a farm just by the end called Shoreside - they used to sell tack and feed there as well as being a reasonable sized livery yard. I bet if you went down on a weekend you would find someone quite happy to come and hack out with you and show you all the best places!
