I am trying to search but I keep getting thrown out, so whilst I am on this page I wanted to get your thoughts.

Hacking; Questions below.

We have almost direct access onto moorland and several routes to choose from.
Also hack around the surrounding villages and other bridleways

I love hacking, and hack most weeks. Hack alone or in company, whichevers around

I enjoy hacking it is a good way to relax you and your horse.
Our hacking is ok, the Woodland Trust tries to look after the paths to cater for horses and dog walkers

I mainly hack on my own but do occasionally hack with others

I hack a couple of times a week for fitness & to have a break from schooling. O/h comes with me on his bike as the only short hacl is 2/3 roadwork. At the w'end we sometimes box to the next village & get direct access to a bridlway.

I had a love/hate relationship with hacking my last horse as sometimes he was good & sometimes he was a spooky monster, & he could be pretty scarey in full flow.

I enjoy hacking our bridle paths arent so bad sometimes get very wet but they are good.I hack out with anyone or on my own doesnt bother me so much.

We have to cross a dual carriageway to get to decent hacking up rivington area, so it can be slightly hair raising if it is busy or the horse is nervous.

I love hacking out. Actually this is where I do most of my schooling on my young horses.

I have absolutely excellent trails which cost us a small fortune to have cut into our forest and hillside, but boy they are worth it. I am also right next to the Trans Canada Trail which goes 3,000 miles all the way to Vancouver from here. If I go to the back of my farm then there is another trail which goes most of the way across the Province. On the other side of me, I am right next door to a Conservation Park which has a beautiful swimming hole where we can take the horses and it also has trails which are lovely. If you box up and travel 15 minutes there are lots and lots of conservations areas and forests that have riding trails in them. I'm pretty lucky, and don't I know it!

I hack out anywhere between once to 14 times a week, depending on the season and I ride out alone or and in company.

I only do hacking as I love it...do all my schooling on hacks too! The bridleways round me are crap so it is road work but I do endurance so get to ride on some lovely routes in that way instead. I always hack on my own...always have and always will!

Enjoy hacking most of the time. Have to be on something pretty sane though. It's my whole fear of not being able to stop (arena, field, hacking). I use hacking as my switch off time. Nothing beats a good pipe-opener. An instructor and I managed to do one of the two hours hacks in a hour one day

But when I was quite literally thrown into having to take the clients hacks out I grew to enjoy it pretty quickly. Although, I couldn't chill completely as I had to be constantly watching the ride, checking they were ok etc.

Hacking near the yard is pretty good - got the Southdowns & the many bridleways within 10mins. And the roadwork to get to them is in one direction, a quietish road, then straight onto the bridleway. The other way you have to cross a main road on a pretty blind bend and head down into the village, then it's water meadows & bridleways. We also have permission to use the local farmer's land too which is pretty good

Or just country lanes.

Have always hacked in small groups, from two of us up to 6 of us (normally when I was front escort). Only time I've ever ridden on my own out hacking was for my R&RS exam on a horse that was usually hacked in a pelham - all I had was a loose ring snaffle & my strength

I wouldn't NOT hack on my own, but much prefer having some company

We have immediate access to bridleways so are very lucky, problem is its spoilt by a minority of crazy bikers and the occasional ferocious dog so I hate having to hack out as I find it stressful. I realise we all have a right to use it but if a dog has a problem with horses they should keep it on a lead or use a muzzle when off the lead and to be fair the bikers are usually very good and more often stop or slow down when we or they approach.

I LOVE HACKING

We have huge open fields, over the south downs, with direct access and no roads. I always ride in company as pickle doesnt enjoy hacking alone

I'm a born-again happy hacker, LOL

. Where we live now we have quite a good network of quiet lanes and bridlepaths, plus I have permission to ride in a couple of privately-owned woodlands.

I prefer mostly to hack out on my own, but also hack out with my daughter. Frequency of hacking depends on the weather - anywhere between twice and six times a week!

There is a bridlepath opposite our yard that takes us onto the horse rides in the country park, there are also good bridlepaths across the local golf course of all places - it seems that George particularly enjoys stopping on the fairway to do his business

There are also some nice quiet lanes, so pretty good really

I only ever hack (once round the school and I'm bored lol). I enjoy hacking. There are a few bridle paths around me, but don't really use them because we're surrounded by endless fields. If I took the trailer there are tons of trails through all the forests etc, but I'm too lazy to actually get organised and go to them

Love hacking and will be taking Rosie out a lot soon, both in company and on her own, got common land, woods, bridle paths and beaches to ride on

some roadwork and those roads can be busy

I normally enjoy hacking, yes. However, our local bridleways are appalling, most of them are unusable, so therefore I have NO off road riding, I have no one to ride with, and the traffic round this way is awful - it's rare we have anybody slow down for us.

I hack out normally 5 times per week, always alone due to nobody to hack with. Bit of a nightmare really.

What a topical post! have just this minute noticed a letter in H&H this week written by someone about 10 minutes from me complaining about the useless oxfordshire county council in preserving rights of way. I've always thought we have it quite good but I suppose it's bad when you know of the bridleways lost. I'm actually on a mailing list for an action group for rights of way in Oxon!

If your bridleways are so bad why not get them sorted out? For instance they could be re-surfaced. All you need to do is to write to the access department of your local county council enclosing a map which shows where the unusable bridlways are and they will do something about it. (Always best to write to them by recorded delivery so that there is no doubt they received the letter). If they then fail to do anything then contact your local BHS Bridleway officer who will be only to pleased to help you. If you need their contact details let me know which County you are in.

Regarding the Oxforshire letter all they have to do is get evidence forms completed by people that rode the bridleways in the past and possibly do some historic research of the routes and submit them to the local authority asking for a modification order of the route to Bridleway status. Job Done!

I do and I don't enjoy hacking. If I can relax then I love it, but I do have confidence issues around hacking alone and find it difficult. I try to do it once or twice a week for ponio's sake, but we don't have many others to hack out with so it can be difficult. We do have access to 400 acres of off road riding, which is great.
