Hacking

It's quite weather dependent. It's been foggy all day here, so today - never

On a cold clear evening until about 5.30 but that's if there's no low sun. We have some hill brows to go over and the low sun can make it really difficult to see.

I'm pretty risk adverse.

Most cars have auto headlights these days - so I make it a point to be off the road before the majority of cars have their headlights on
If it's dusky / foggy etc. enough for the cars sensors to think they need lights on - then it's not good enough visibility for me.

Sunset is 6pm. I’d aim to be home by 5.30 latest. But considering how busy it still is at 5.30 (not like in summer racing the light with empty roads!) realistically 4.30 would be last I go out.

Really? I had no idea of that! Maybe I should to Scotland or something 🤣
Here (about 30 miles west of central London) sunset was 18.08 today, pitch dark just after 6.30pm.
Sunrise was at 07.26

I fibbed, (as just checked) we are lighter earlier by about 20 mins in the morning than the top of Scotland. Dusk is currently v similar to Thurso.

Yeah, that sounds similiar to us. It definitely was dark leaving the farm at 6.40pm today ... I just assumed everyone else in the UK was the same! Thanks I can add it to the list of random, adulty stuff I learnt from HHO that I should have known previously but didn't :)

I just don't bother in the week in the winter - the road I have to ride on to get to the off road hacking is a 60mph road and used as a cut through for the main roads. I only need to be on it for about 10 mins but I just don't like to risk it.

5/6 pm as the next couple of weeks would need to be 3/4 pm once the clocks change 😊
Eugh, I'd been blocking that one out! Of course its only round the corner already isn't it!

I'm not sure what time it was yesterday but I was later than usual taking my dogs out and got a bit caught out. I did a loop round some quiet roads and in hindsight did it the wrong way round as the way home was sheltered shady narrow road so was much darker than had i gone the other and been more out in the open. It got dark surprisingly fast!

I’ve been riding back home around 6/615pm and it is starting to feel dark. I wouldn’t want to be out much later than I am currently.
