Had a bit of a dispute with a part loaner

I have a girl that part loans my mare. My mare is insured third party and apparently the part loaner has insurance. My boyfriend has recently bought a 3 year old gelding who is very docile in personality if a bit timid of new people. My part loaner has complained that he has become a **** in the field when she tries to catch my mare. My boyfriend has had his boy for over a month now and we have never had problems with catching them in the field (my boyfriend is a novice btw). We have been in the process of choosing insurance for him as he's quite expensive so need decent insurance that covers all areas, so we're shopping around for the best cover. The part loaner has complained that as he currently isn't insured this invalidates her insurance and any other person with a horse who has insurance. Is this correct? I am new to this horse insurance and I was wondering if I could have your input on if this is the case? Many thanks.
 
As far as I am aware it makes no difference, how would it invalidate her insurance? If both horses got injured in the field yours would not be covered hers would end of, the insurance company will not ask her if there are any horses in the field without insurance its not relevant to a claim.

Geez how long does it take to shop around (you have had it over a month)? I would have thought if he is 'quite expensive' you would want him insured asap!
 
Think what she may mean is if your BF's horse injures the mare or the loaner, she wouldn't be able to claim off your insurance and would have to claim off her own?

Her insurance isn't invalid because your horse isn't insured though :/
 
Perhaps there is a clue in the "WE never have any trouble catching THEM" in the field.

Your loaner is probably trying to take just the one.

Of course if she gets injured by the uninsured horse she will be able to sue your boyfriend, so I hope he has deep pockets.

Part loaner doesn't know what she's talking about. Best thing would be to check this out with your insurer but ask hypothetically. Don't even hint that there may be an actual problem. You could say you had read an article which suggested that an accident caused by an uninsured horse would invalidate any insurance on another horse involved in the accident.

Having said that make insurance for the youngster a priority. A playful kick in the field can run into huge vet's bills if you don't have insurance to say nothing for the need for public liability insurance to cover you against other people's claims.
 
Her insurance isn't invalid, but if there's an accident then as already said unless your boyfriend is extremely well off she's screwed.
Regarding the problem catching, have you actually been up & watched to see what the problem is?
 
why is she insuring your horse instead of you insuring it?? Or does she mean personal accident insurance??

Insurance is worth its weight in gold when things go wrong, chop chop! Accidents happen.

Rather than have a **** fit why not just accept that she may be having problems and has notified you of them, go along with her and observe what is happening when she is bringing your mare in. At least then you have seen first hand and if there is a problem you can smooth it over with your sharer and find a suitable resolution.

This is the bit that would worry me if I were loaning my horse out :rolleyes:

No her insurance (if she has it as you don't seem sure) wouldn't be invalidated but as others have said, if your gelding isn't insured it could get messy.

Your boyfriend is a novice and you bought an expensive 3 year old.

Your loaner, you "think" has insurance. She rides your horse and you don't know?

You've taken over a month and still not found insurance for the new 3 year old even though he was expensive.

Your loaner makes a daft comment that I've never heard the stupidest person ever say before.

You've queried what your loaner says because you don't know if it's true, meanwhile using language which suggests that you know plenty.

You've posted on two other threads about your aggressive mare but say on this one that you've had no problems.

Am I the only one looking under a bridge here :rolleyes: ?




OP no of course it doesn't invalidate her insurance. But if his horse kicks her, she can sue him personally if she can't claim off his insurance. Have you got a house insurance policy? You are often covered for personal third party risks on that policy and that may set her mind at ease.

If either injure her you'll likely get sued. At least get 3rd party in the interim.

I should imagine there may be trouble with him in there. She's taking one away from the other.

Agree 100% cpt... I'd rather a troll than knowing yet another novice has bought an expensive youngster... seems to be a running theme on here *brick wall*

No idea about the insurance so sorry for going slightly off topic. Our boy was in with another last year. Both were good to catch together but if you tried to catch ours alone (who just stands & let's you catch him) , the other would launch for him & attack him. Not when leading him out, he didn't care that he was leaving, just getting the headcollar on. This resulted in our boy loosing it one day & giving the other a good fly kick back. Unfortunately he missed & caught the daughter instead :(

She was ok but after that we always made sure someone held the other one while we brought ours out. He never batted an eyelid if he was caught & being held first. Infact he didn't even stop grazing.

Just saying, however good they both might be to catch, it might be a different matter with the loaner xx

exactly, you kind of hint that you don't believe there are problems? why would she lie? what if there are actually problems? You need to go with her to the yard and get her to explain what is happening

I've had this before. I came in from dealing with the horses and having seen the result of novice ownership where horse was thin cold and getting rain scald had a rant at someone who'd posted ."nervous novice looking for dressage horse" I had a reply from another user name! I looked further and it made for interesting reading including an email address which led to a very strange website which seemed to involve secretive sex liaisons :eek: not seen her about for a while either. Suppose it is the cyber world where anyone can be , well, anyone :)
