The Mendip Bridleway Assoc ran a have a go Le Trec day today, so the OH and I went along, what a HOOT
First, it was blowing a gale and I had not thought to take a map case, so I had to fold up the A4 paper map small enough to fit in a mobile phone case. Then, 200 yards after we set off, I realised I had forgotten to find the starting point on the map DOH! The rest of the trec was uneventful, unless you count the bit when we completely lost the route, or the other bit where I got surrounded by young cows in a field. My poor boys eye were out on stalks he was snorting like a train and if I had not got off I think he would have taken off vertically like a Harrier Jump Jet
.
Anyway, we got back safe and sound and then decided to try the slow canter -fast walk test. Best I could manage was multiple zigzag fly buck - giblet giggling jog. My OH did it perfectly of course
Still, at least we made the timing judge laugh....and everyone else on the field watching us!
The rest of the tests were great and the ponies did brilliantly.
I'm not sure I'd want to take this too seriously, as the trec section can get complicated and very technical, but as an occasional bit of fun and a great way of spending a lovely day with the ponies and other riders I can thoroughly recommend it.
Thanks to the MBBA crew for organising a superb and fun event.
