Had to tell someone as OH doesnt really understand hunting!!
Went out with the costwold vale today, was worried last night it was going to be frozen this morning but it was really mild when i woke up! Ground was perfect for my boy, nice and squidgey!
Didnt get cold or soaked either, which was a bonus!
It was my first ever time out all by myself, and at a hunt i didnt know, but everyone was really nice!
Pony had a lovely time, he was very well behaved! We even managed a fence (after someone knocked the top rail down for us!!!)
Looking forward to boxing day even more know, especially as ill be back home with people i know!!!!

Excellent. I have to tell people on this forum about those great days as my OH just doesn't understand, I just get 'oh that's nice dear'.
The conditions are ok at the moment, if the ground doesn't freeze - I just hope this dry spell continues through the xmas hols!

Me too!
My parents are normally good at listening to me wittering on, but theres only so much i can do over the phone!
Ive been shattered tonight, even though i only stayed a couple of hours, i havent been out since last boxing day! Went to sleep when i got back at four this afternoon and didnt get up till seven!! Thank god for part livery!
Still got all my tack to clean though, thankfully it didnt get too muddy!

Go on - get off that computer and clean your tack!!
You're a better woman than me if you are going to do that now at this time! Mind you, there's nothing worse than trying to do up a bridle that's been left after getting soaked (like I have done after last week's rain!)

Oh dear, im terrible for not cleaning my tack! It was vile when i did it last night!
Im watching olympia on eurosport at the mo, so i might sit down and do it now, before it finishes!
Im going back home on friday and if i turn up with dirty boots and tack my dad will shoot me!
I also thought it would be a good plan to put his breastplate on. All ive done is give myself more tack to clean!!

Weve had lots of lovely days before, but this was our first by ourselves! I was felt sick with nerves in the morning!
But were getting out and about now, this is my 6th season out hunting (although we only do a couple of days each season!) and weve hunted with the ledbury, the cotswold vale and the quorn.
Yes, skiddaw, i did see the hounds, however im fairly inexperianced in proper hunting, we tend to stay at the back out of the way of everyone! So i would have no clue what the hounds were doing at any given time! I know i should at least try!

didn't say they were pointless, as a huntsmans wife, i know more than you give me credit for, just said that not everyone comes out for hounds, but as such these people shouldn't be prevented from coming. they after all pay to come out and we couldn't survive without that support.

like i said each to their own. some of our regulars, have been forced to foot follow for various reasons and are seeing hounds in a new light.
it is nice when people comment on hounds, but also nice to know that they had a nice day regardless.

I love watching hounds work, but i have no clue what they are doing!
I got into hunting having non horsey parents (although they breed and train gundogs, so field sports have always been around!) and knowing no one that hunted, so ive learnt as ive gone along!
However, i do realise that what the hounds are doing is the most important part of the day, im not a complete moron (some would beg to differ!)!!!
I enjoy hunting as my horse has a lovely time and i love the atmosphere, i love the sound of hounds working.
I like to think i can appreciated the hounds at work without fully understanding what they are doing, but i do intend to make more of an effort.
They are beautiful animals, and the ones ive had the pleasure to meet have been as soft as butter!
