....and Oliver's saddle is now with them until Tuesday having the tree made narrower.

Result! Cost of having it done, including the fitting next week, assessment and flocking is £95!

Well, I won't count my chickens just yet. The proof of the pudding is in the eating afterall.

Will reserve judgement until next Tuesday, but the fitter (independent...so not after selling any particular brand) seemed confident that it was pretty straight forward.

mmm.....this worries me slightly. Flocking will not make the tree narrower! It will make the gullet narrower. If the tree is too wide, i.e. it is too wide for the horse, more flocking will just make the gullet narrower and more likely to pinch and if the tree is too wide then it will spread again anyway. If it is the case that the actual tree does fit the horse and it just needs re flocking to adjust the panels then you will be fine.

I've had the saddle for two years and it's never been flocked at all. It's settled loads, especially around the head plate.

Lots of people seem to have their trees narrowed.....surely it's not that easy for it just spread again as people wouldn't do it? I am now confused.

I didn't mean to confuse you! From what you have just said it sounds like a straight forward re flock of the panels to sit the saddle higher on the horse. Just be very wary of anyone who says they are going to narrow the tree, that is an entirely different thing and to be avoided.

How come? I'm not doubting you, I'd just appreciate a heads up as to why it's a bad idea. I ask because the saddle is currently in the care of the second fitter to have the tree narrowed!
