Sometimes, don’t you just wish you kew what you’d done wrong in a former life, or to annoy someone??? You might remember I’d had the vet out recently to my chap as he was very very slighty lame – I was convinced it as his shoulder, and eventually it turned out to be ostio-arthritis of both front pastern joints. Well, a couple of weeks have passed with him being on 2 bute a day, and no improvement. If anything he looked miserable off and on, so I spoke to them again, and he was bumped up to 4 bute for 3 days I trotted him up on the 3rd day and joy oh joy, he Is as sound as I’ve ever known him, which was excellent for me! He was happy etc! Anyway, farrier came back out yesterday to pull his toes back some more, and to pop his front shoes on, and asked me to lunge him, which I did – and after a bit of stupid AAARRGGHH WHATS A CIRCLE from ponio, ie farting bucking, mad canter and falling over (!!) we got a few strides of trot, and farrier announces he thinks if anything he is worse!!! ARGH! Anyway, front shoes are on, I expect him to be touchy for a short while, his feet are being pruned hard back so will see how it goes. He did mention he doesn’t think he will ever be ridden again, if he does it might be the odd hack( which is fine, sad but fine) and then I rushed back home to take my cat to the vets who had been looking a little ‘off’ for a day… and she is still there… they think she’s been poisoned, is on a drip, and mentally I am now on my knees. So. Whoever it is dealing all this out, please stop… Ive had enough now…. They don’t deserve all this… Any suggestions welcome… lemonade and cake in return…

wish I could suggest something helpful, but instead I'll send hugs. Sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time. Hope both your cat and horse are well and happy soon, even if that is chilling out in the field.
Much thanks for the lemonde, shall pass you some pimms to add to yours, should improve your day?!

Hang in there chuck, it will get better.
Sending you hugs and chocolate with alcohol in the chocolate.
Fingers crossed for pony and kitty!

Keep the lemonade and cake, you need it more. And put something stronger in the lemonade ;)

What a rubbish time, i think it often all comes at once. Maybe there are years of uninterrupted good times ahead now. Will keep fingers crossed for both of them, let us know how they get on, especially poor kitty. Have a massive *hug* and a hot chocolate with baileys in it. xx

Oh hun, Life is sometimes just such a sh!t.

I can only offer you a shoulder, a large box of soft handkerchiefs, and a large hot choccy. And the promise that Life does, eventually, get better.

Sounds like you need a few (((hugs))) and some of MrsMozart's hot choccy.

Hope things look up for both you and your horse and your moggi is ok.

Can't offer any suggestions, but will offer hugs. I had similar last year (two pets dead within a month, then the next month low grade laminitis despite restricted grazing), so can empathise. Life can be such a **** and as you say, they don't deserve it. Hope they both improve soon. xx

My cat picked up a dopey rat a few years ago. My mum found her fitting and writhing around in agony on the driveway and rushed her to the vets. they were just about to give her something to make her vomit when she emptied her guts on the vet! She was a semi feral spikey prickly little beast and not really handleable. She was in cat hospital for about a week on a drip and sedation etc. When she came home she got an abcess where the drip had been, but we coped with that by wrapping her in a towel to bath said abcess. My Dad got peed on more times than he cares to remember!

8 years on and she is still with us, and now quite elderly. Not that you'd know, she left a dead stoat  on the doorstep yesterday! The only lasting effects of the poisoning is that she is quite a soppy cuddly cat. we think she had a personality transplant while she was at the vet. The vet bill was certainly enough to suggest it! :D

What I'm trying to say is that I'm sure your cat will be fine! and if your pony can't be ridden, at least he's happy and he's got you caring for him, as you say, sad but fine. what pony could wish for a more loving home?

Sometimes these things do all come along at once, and we just have to get on with life and we come out the stonger for it.
Have a large vodka for that there lemonade! ;)

Oh jeebus you've had a rough time allright! I'm wishing you well for both animals and I'm sure things can only get better. I have some marshmallys for the hot chocolate if you want?

A few years ago I had 2 horses pts within 5 days (broken leg and meningitis), got the flu and had my car impounded as I forgot to tax it! That was a bad week but I can partly laugh about it now. Occasionally twitch and froth at the mouth though.....

Thanks everyone, sorry I didn't reply last night, I was on the sofa having a mope... ut with my cat :-) she's home, weak, and having to be talked into eating (we won't mention tablets at this stage) ... bill topped £220 (eeek), so, that, on top of the horses bill - which is on going, I'm trying to think positive thoughts... just can't quite get my head around the fact he's still lame - it really is very slight, not hopping - but in my mind if he's lame, it means he's in discomfort, so happy? not sure...

The only thing I can say is take each day as it comes and don't get too dispondant, as cats have nine lives and my lot did, lost the last one last week and she was 17. As for your horse if he's coming sound on bute after a few days that will give your vet something to go on, so best of luck.:):):):)

Can I ask which vet you are using? Might be worth getting a second opinion if you're having to give that much bute and he still isn't right. I've had bad experiences with two of the local vets and would never use them again for lameness. I was recommended 608 vets in Solihull by my farrier and I know lots of people that use them now. Much, much better at finding the cause of lameness.

Glad to hear that your puss is on the mend, a little boiled chicken and the jelly works wonders, specially with the tablets. I know that vet bills are horrendance, as my vetbill for the two brothers fighting came to £100, tablets for my lab each month £98 and for my young mare call out and 3 days tablets and bute £87.45, blood test for my lab £32 something that was in the space of 2 weeks:(:(:(:(:(

Hi all, he's been on 2 bute a day since the xrays, the 4 a day was only for 3 days 'just to see' - I use Pool House, and THB I trust them implicitly... having seen the xrays Im just gutted he's such a stoic fella that he hid the discomfort for so long! Farrier is of the opinion he may well not be ridden again, but if he dores, just lick hacking - which is all I want anyway... but even so... :-( Good news is Madame Marley is eating ok, and despite NOT being amused about the tablets, seems alot better :-)

Well... I really don't want to be typing this TBH.. I had a call from my daughters school yesterday to say she'd passed out (2nd time in 2 weeks), she does have a history of this, but nobody ever seems to get a result, so, hubby trotted off to fetch her, I came home and we took her to the GP. Night before I had a real struggle with the pills they gave me for little kitty-Marley, so decided not to give them to her, they hadn't a clue what was wrong other than the thoery she'd been poisoned, and the stress trying to give her the pills put her under wasn't fair - believe me, Ive owned cats a long time, pill-giving I'm a master at - but this wasn't fair. Her breathing since that seemed to be laboured, and she was showing less interest in food than she had, so I spoke to the vet who suggested taking her in last night (after the GP, subsequent hospital visit for blood tests etc), going up to sort my big fella and his bute etc, and with small son also in tow (you get the image of a time-short harassed mother now huh!) and so, she went to the vets... and saw another vet. She agreed, and x-rayed her, there seemed to be a decent amount of fluid on her lungs, so she said she wanted to dain it - by now she was suggesting things other than poison, but my heads still spinning. Anyway, long story short, we lost her. She went into respiratory shock when they tried to drain her lungs, and they couldn't get her back. Keboard is wet typing this and my heart feels empty. I've had enough. I really have. Miss you Marley Moo. You would have been 3 on July 17th... I was there when you were born, and you are so, so missed. I feel I let you down, I feel so many things, but most of all, I just hope you know you were loved.
Sorry guys, not what I wanted to type today....

Rest in Peace kitty; so sorry to hear she didn't make it. I really hope things pick up now, and with ponio, you can never say never. Lots of written off horses do come sound in time.

I think you should have the rest of the cake - even if it's not traditional breakfast.

So sorry to hear you having such a rotten time, it does feel like something is taking the piss when things get so bad, I dont have any fancy words of encouragment I'm afraid, I just hope things get better from this point for you, bless your pussycat :(

Really sorry about your poor little cat. I lost mine a few years ago in similar circumstances (fluid on lungs/couldn't breathe etc) - turned out to be cancer. Takes ages to get over it, or at least come to terms with it, but I read lots of spiritual/bereavement type books which really helped.

Hope things start to pick up for you soon.
