Had my first go at clicker training today :-)

Have to say the big lad got it pretty quick. I made him a target stick from a whip and a old supplement lid attached onto the handle end.

We started off doing click/treat about 30 times, he was very interested in the food so I was glad he was behind stable door! I waited till his head was away from me before clicking/treating again.

I then gave him a very short break before bringing the target stick out, the first time he touched it because he was curious so clicked/treated, the next 2/3 times I placed it so he bumped into it by accident when he moved his nose - click/treat and after that he was actively touching it only did this for five mins and stopped when he'd done a really good one.

Sounds like fun! I keep meaning to have a go- can you recommend any good books/ websites?

Sounds like you have taken to it well.

I had a go a few months ago and just didn't like it so gave up as I'm very unmotivated.

sounds like a great first session

the eagerness might lead to a little mugging as you found out but they do soon learn the rules ... no click no treat and if you always present the treat away from you and at arms length they less likely to bring head in towards you to "mug".
