Hi Clare
Well firstly I can see and feel that this mare is happy and well, she works well with you now Clare but I can see that there have been a few battles in the past. It feels that when you first got her, she was very reactionary if that makes sense? She would work herself up into a worry state and then react but sort of locking on the spot and doing little half rears (not that dramatic, front legs off the ground trying to go forward but not going anywhere type movements!!) She would get herself in a flap when you tried to ask her to do things, often things she actually knew how to do and had done well yesterday, your relationship has built from there Clare in that you have had to just sit there till she uses her head and moves forward nicely, I do think she still does it but really once every couple of months now, rather than the ten times during a session in the school as she was then.
Just got the reading back for the Beanie. I have to say I am really pleased with it. When she first came to us we had some battles due to lack of understanding and the fact that she was younger than was sold to us. Thw half rears is spot on. She has always done this when she is confused or excited i.e out hunting.
I can see that she can be very strong with you, a nice open free space equals her tanking off the minute you say go, she is like a cannon ball, strong and fast. You would think she likes racing wouldnt you!? I feel that there have been times when you are more or less just hanging on! You hope that she pulls up at the end and that you are still on board!!! Having said that you love her massively even the quirks she has, and have always trusted her. By putting that trust in her Clare, she is now the trustworthy horse you wanted (or at least most of the time).
She is indeed very strong and there have been times when she has 'set sail' and I have had to hope that she pulls herself up at the end, which she does do.
Again I get she can go like the clappers, however she has got nice paces too, so would be really an all round horse able to show, do dressage, jump and event and I feel that she has done some of each. When I ask what she likes, it is jumping, but equally I feel that the lovely paces would be good for dressage too. I think that as long as you dont do anything for hours she would love the variety of a bit of everything but she will be very good a most things, it isnt a case of jack of all trades she is really a great all round horse who is fit enough to do most things.
Once again, spot on. She is a fab all rounder but absolutely adores jumping.
Going back to the comment of not doing anything for hours, she has quite a short attention span Clare, so you might as well just do 30/40 minutes of anything, after that time she would start the acting up bit again saying, yes, we did that before and I know how to do it!
Accurate again, she has always given the impression that she does something and then knows it, even when jumping a course of show jumps, in the jump off, she will want to go the first round route if you see what I mean.
She is a good communicator but in a brutal way, if she isnt happy, she will swivel round and knock into you, that is what I mean by brutal, she isnt subtle but definitely gets her point across! She is a feisty mare, but not a nasty mare, she just wants you to get on with it whether that is picking out her feet or doing a lesson on her. I am sure that you have worked that one out already!!!!
Yep. Thats her alright. lol. If she wants to crack on with stuff, you get a nice bonk or nudge of the head! But never in a malicious way.
When I move onto ask if she is in pain, I get no, but she does get pain in her head when you ask her do concentrate and do new things, if that makes sense as if she is saying ouch I cant work out what you want a bit like being bamboozled as she tries to work things out. Secondly I feel that the rear offside leg has had problems on the inside but they are sorted now, this is a memory feeling as at present she is in no pain.
This is amasing. On the OH she severed an extensory tendon when she was 5 and then 3 years ago on the same leg, she got kicked which resulted in a fractured splint bone which had to be removed.
She really enjoys her life Clare, will always test you to the max, but I know that is what you love about her, she is sometimes cuddly but more often just feisty but I can see that you are loving all the sides of her personality! I feel that you are a both a great team set to continue, with a lot of battles under your belt and now able to just enjoy each other.
I can totally relate to this comment. She is a quirky character which I love dearly and would never part with.
She will always need to work Clare, she needs to test her head so always bring a lesson of something in each week to give her something to think about if she is bored, she is a pain!
Yes, sounds like the Bean!!
I dont feel that she wants to have any part of her life changed, just bring on the challenges, notice that sometimes her head is working overtime but dont stop giving her work, she thrives on it. That and whole apples!! Nice juicy ones please (I feel that they are a very occasional treat for her, she loves the taste).
Clare, I hope that the reading all makes sense, please feel free to ask questions if there are areas that you do not understand.
Well I for one am thrilled and totally convinced and am now off to buy some of those juicy apples that the girl has asked for.
