had new horse vetted but the vet did not pick up on sarcoids

I went and viewed my new horse (a grey) and rode him, did the usual inspection then sent a local vet to do a 2 stage vetting. He phoned me to say he had passed with flying colours so I sent a deposit then paid in full when the seller delivered him. However, the next day when I was grooming him I noticed he had two lumps under his tail about the size of a peanut m&m and a pea and also one very small one in between his legs. I asked my own vet in passing about sarcoids in the vetting and they said it is one of the first things that should be checked for in all vettings, something about standard practice. When I didn't pay the bill they contacted me to ask why and I told them why I was unhappy. The lady said the vet would ring me but he never has but has managed to pass the debt onto a debt collection agency. Where do I stand and what should I do concerning the vet and treatment for the sarcoids?
 
Firstly, pay your vets bill.
Then go about trying to get them to give you the money back. It's best to write a letter, send photos and get an expert 2nd opinion if you can bear to
 
I had the exact same thing happen to me 2 years ago.
The first thing i would do is get a vet to diagnose that they are sarcoids and get them to put this is writing sooner rather than later, then go to trading standards and ask them where you stand with both seller and vet and you will find that the vet won't stand a chance and you will win the case.
I found a sarcoid on my gelding the day after i got him and also had the vet out but didn't really realise what it was at the time then a couple of months later i realised he had another but then all the vet said was he must have got them after i did the vetting.

I'd get vets opinion and see if they would affect performance, you may find vet has done you a favour as at least there covered for insurance purposes if they weren't noted on vetting. While if he noted them then you continued to buy they would be excluded.
 
pay the bill! then fight it if you still want to. if you don't pay it, you're not doing yourself any favours, as it'll affect your credit and also make it look like you're trying to get out of payment rather than that you have a genuine problem with the vetting.

how long ago was this? we get ages to pay our vets bills before they even send shirty reminders, let alone debt collection agencies... if it was AGES ago, can you prove that the horse had them when vetted? did you get a second vet's opinion at the time?

will they affect the horse? are you sure they're sarcoids?

i hope it all gets sorted. please pay it though, you don't want to ruin future chances of credit in the current financial climate!

they sound more like melanomas than sarcoids in that area, but either way the vet should have spotted them.

the vet missed the sarcoid on my horse last yr when he was 5stage vetted. i noticed it 5days later and successfully claimed £1500 off them for the cost of the vetting and loss in value.
