had one of those lovely moments with my horse today

i wasnt riding as have family staying so it was a quick feed and groom today. or that was the plan. when i took his rug off he started to nibble himself in places so i started to scratch with my nails where he was nibbling his flanks. and how he loved it! he kinda stretched out as if he was gonna pee and lifted his hind leg off the floor that side. wish i couldve taken a pic!! then i decided to give him an all over scratch. my nails are quite long at the moment, been growing them for new yr eve party. (i'm lucky to hve strong nails that arent affected by looking after horse!) he went totally gaa gaa! his nose went all long and rubbery and he wanted to groom me back, but as he can nip i dont let him. then when i scratched over his saddle area he started to yawn like crazy. he's not usually very cuddly but he thrust his nose into my arm, so i scratched his face and muzzle. i ended up doing this for ages. it was just a lovely peaceful unhurried moment, just me and my horse. and how i love him!!

I used to look after a very aloof german dressage horse, he had no personality to speak of but one day I did the same as you and he really bonded with me. I didn't have long nails so I used a metal mane comb to really scratch him and he groomed me back! It was wonderful and afterwards he really came out of himself and became a right cheeky thing!
