Gloomy post, but wonder if anyone can give me support. I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer and have to have a mastectomy. apart from all the other worries, I have to get my horses on full livery as I wont be able to look after them for several weeks, even months. Wondering
anyoone been in same boat and how you coped. Cannot put nags on on loan as retired and they have to be stabled in winter. I have a 5 mile drive each way to yard. No prob getting full livery just paying for it, so wonder if anyone gone through this and how they managed to do their horses

I'm so sorry to hear this, my YO was diagnosed this time last year and we thought we'd have to sell all her horses but we all pulled together while she had Chemo, Mastectomy and Radiotherapy and she looks so great now, still got all the horses and looking forward to going out competing. I'm sure you'll find lots of lovely people who are really supportive and you'll get through it just fine. Big hugs xxx

I'm so sorry to read this

A lady at my old yard was receiving treatment for cancer and a Macmillan nurse used to drive her over to see them because she said it was the best medicine for her. The horses were on full livery and she didn't manage to get over everyday but it was most days

So sorry to hear your news, lets hope you have a speedy recovery.

Do you have a helpful YO /friend on your yard may be you could make arrangements to help you in the next few months. While you are recovering from the op and then later when you under go your treatment.Could be alternative to going down the full livery route.

Not much help sorry

So sorry for your news. I'm assuming the horses either live on your land or on DIY nearby, have you thought of employing someone to look after them where they are at the moment, probably less expensive than full livery for several horses and less disruption for the horses and you.

Huge **hugs** for you , hope the surgery goes well and you make a speedy recovery , Im sure people on the yard would rally round to help you keep the costs down as much as possible , lots of people on our yard turnout or bring in for other people because their already up there , and when your well again and able to go up you can return the favour

Sorry to hear your bad news, sending you Vibes for a good recovery. I agree with the Macmillan suggestion, when my brother had leukeamia they were sooo helpful to all of us, support, money towards travel etc. Deffinately get in touch with them asap, voice all your worries and they will do anything they can to help. I'm also sure you will find lots of close friends and family will be able to help you out.
Good luck.

I looked at my 6 months of chemo (hodgekins lymphoma) aslike a pregnancy not looking forward to it but the result will be worth it, thinking of you love mon.

my freind was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of the year, she had a masecomy, chemo, and is now 1 1/2 weeks away from the end of her radiotherapy. She has 3 horses and has had some help - but amazingly has managed really well in continuing to do them. Our best sight was to see her back riding a month ago...
good luck with everything - wishing you a speedy recovery. x

I am so sorry to hear your news, afraid I have no advice, but wish you all the best for a speedy and full rcovery.

So sorry to hear your news. is there anyone that you would be able to share the horses with to help you out until you feel better?
Sending thoughts, hugs and very best wishes for a speedy recovery x

I am so sorry to hear your news, I have no personal experience, but want to send hugs for a speedy recovery.

A friend of mine has been through this, she got lots of help with her horses, but she is fully recovered now, and back competing again.

xx

I know that Im not in the position to help you, but..............I would happily take them all for as long as is needed

. What an awful position you find yourself in ! For the equine side of things.I would call the ILPH or my nearest equiv and ask them to help. I dont see why they should only help the most desperate of cases, yours sounds serious enough. I wish you all the best and hope that all works out in the end. A HUGE HUG and the BESTEST of WISHES from me

) If financially you are struggling having your horses on full livery -why don't you contact a rescue centre - they may take the horses whilst you have your surgery/recouperation period? They can only say no?
Hope you're ok

Let us all know which area you live in Mcduff. I'm sure there will be someone (infact lots of us) that could offer practical help. So sad to hear your news and hope that all will be OK and wish you lots of luck. I know of a couple of people that have been through the same thing and very happy to say both ok. They were both very positive throughout their treatment and changed their diets (eating very healthily) & looked at alternative therapies....all of which helped for them. All the best & lots of love.....don't forget to let us know where you are so we can help if we can. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
