I got a phone call this afternoon to say get to yard ASAP as Marco my thoroughbred had got out and was galloping down main road into town! I ran as fast as i could down to yard and then proceeded to look for him, i was frantic and was running around busy town asking people if they'd seen a horse on the loose, with no luck, just getting funny looks!
I rang my dad who had already gone looking and he had been driven to a road where a horse had been spotted by a member of public, and it turned out to be Alfie, my welsh cob, which was odd for him to jump out as i've had him 6 years kept in the same fields, and we thought it was Marco who had jumped out.
Anyway, i ran to meet my dad and check alf was ok, once i got to him we met some people who told us 2 horses had been galloping down the road!! I was horrified and ran off again looking for Marco when i saw him further down the road heading for the roundabouts out of town!! I ran after him and luckily some people had grabbed him by his flymask and had hold of him. i thanked them and they said they had seen them galloping down a really steep tarmac road.
Both back at the yard both seem ok apart from a lost shoe and a little scratch, i am just worried about what i will find tomorrow, probably filled legs and splints, especially as marco has stick legs and is only 6.
Turned them out in the field and then Alfie and one of the other horses started kicking and biting marco really nastily pinning him into the corner and he was trembling and looked really scared. i managed to rescue him and seperated him and he ran down to far end of field and was then stood with head hanging low looking really scared and depressed.
these horses have been together for 7 months now, with no problems, but alfie was out to kill him and obviously chased him out of the field earlier.
why would they suddenly do this? with no change to their routine? any ideas? anyone else experienced this before??
I think i was lucky not to have 2 dead horses today as they could have easily been knocked by a car!
sorry for the mega long post, thanks for reading!
