Well I'm not going to hope this will carry on just yet but what a day!
Someone gave us some hoof boots that were too big for their horse and we tried these on Kelly today and gave her half an hour to settle into them - then opened her door to let her wander.
She took two pottery steps - and went!
I had to grab her forelock, her mum grabbed a headcollar and we went off marching to the muck heap. She stopped at the muck heap (her usual longest walk), watching the babies play in the field - and carried on :)
She had a big spook at a horse rushing round in a stable (wound up by babies I think), and had her tail up, snorting, prancing about and we walked all the way to the 3rd field where she proceeded to drag me down the lane after someone walking their pony - I couldn't keep a hold of her, the lead rope slipped through my fingers and it took 3 of us to stop her!
I think Kelly might be back......:D and I've missed the little bugger!!
Definitely a bridle tomorrow...here's the video once she'd settled down!

ETA - we are going to give her a month's walking in these boots, still on 1 1/2 danilon and 1 Pergolide a day just in the hope that it works the stiffness off her (that's half her problem when she comes out of her stable, espesh after 2 weeks box rest) and then see how she goes without them then hopefully start to bring her danilon down. This is the most positive improvement we've had since she was diagnosed :) absolutely made up!

thats brilliant!! Might have to get some of those boots for a little pony with cushings at our yard, shes really poorly at the moment :(

Like I said not going to count my chickens just yet, but she was crippled 2 weeks ago, not able to walk out of her stable :)
We've had so many setbacks over the last 15/16 months but today we saw the old bolshy 'I'm going to throw my weight around' Kelly for the first time in ages :)
Boots are brilliant for when they're still stiff or if (like we suspect with Kel) its partly psychological of I'm not going to walk because it hurts.
JessandCharlie - its fairly flat down there but there are a few stones so we weren't sure how she'd been. Furthest she's been in about a year!!

ETA - had to have lead rope round her nose 'cause she was a little *****! Deff bridle tomorrow!!

Ahhhh thats fantastic news!!!!! You must be estactic.
I wondered about boots for my mare....so you would recommend them? what make were they??
Can I just ask has she got any pulses or not now??? My mare gets stiff (and depressed) by being on box rest but can walking out sound and isnt on dannilon. However she still has pulses that come and go during the day and from day to day. Dont know what to do for the best. Let her have an hour/day (or longer) in 10m bare paddock or just stay in 24 hrs a day. Dont know if boots would be relevant for her???

goldypops - they are called Easy Boots - someone actually threw them out in good nick so we made use of other peoples rubbish! :)
I can thoroughly recommend them they're very thick and seem to enable her to walk without pain - she has no pulses even after her pratting about session today. Have you tried magnetic boots overnight too? We were wondering if stiffness was a problem for Kelly so we thought the more we try and give her little walks, the easier it may be for her.

ETA - we started off by opening Kel's door and just letting her wander - up until now she hasn't been able to move very fast at all so we haven't had a problem :) one day she turned herself out and started to play!

Had thought about magnetic boots too - just dont want to fork out on something for it not to really help as both hoof boots and magnetic boots arent cheap! - you did well to get the ones you did!!! Think she just needs box rest and I've got to be strong and keep her on box rest til I have the pulses under control. If I left her door open to give her the choice she'd be off cantering round the field or yard! We have upped her level of pergolide to 1.5 last week so I am waiting to see if that will help stabilse her. It just breaks my heart to see her depressed.

Ah yeah that is a good start - we upped Kelly to 1.5 for a day but obv she's improved now so we've kept her on 1 - at least you know she would be gone if you left the door open that's a positive sign :) But yeah it's horrible to see them depressed - magnetic boots are well worth the money, whether its coincidence or not but we haven't really seen much of a pulse since we started to use them and now she has them on every night. Best to get the pulses under control like you say and go from there.
We are lucky that the girl who used them thought of Kelly when they turned out too big for hers!
