went to an unaff 3ft ODE at upper sapey today, in the unrelentless pouring rain. dressage went ok to be fair, although she slipped in canter (yes she was wearing studs) and broke so got marked down for that, but was the best test of the season and ended up in top 6 after dressage. HUGE wait for sj, 3 hours nearly, everything was running behind and it was all so wet and horrible
sj course was a disaster, everyone was having faults- the person parked next to us came back and told us that their pony had stopped twice and it has never stopped with them in the 2 years they have had him!
so, got on and warmed up in the pouring rain, everything was soaked and tara was truely fed up. all warmed up and ready to go, then a horse went in and skidded into a jump, then tried to jump it, then got its foot stuck in the filler! and omg how dissorganised where the organisers- took about 15 minutes for them to find any sort of tools to cut it out or to get the vet to come and sedate it! so that held the comp up for another half an hour. anyway finally managed to get the filler off (luckily horse was v. well behaved!), then the horse before me went and skidded into the exact same jump (minus the filler) so yeah that got my confidence up
anyway finally got in, jumped the first two nice considering the conditions (literally a bog!) and then a few strides out of the third fence my rein came undone from my bit (yes, that was my fault, im not blaming anyone, i should have checked tack before hand) so jumped the fence with NO control and she had it down, stopped after and put the rein back on without turning a circle and carried on the course and jumped clear round the rest, but i got another 4 faults for a circle which i know i didnt do!
anyway we withdrew from the xcountry as the ground was just so awful, and we had no chance of getting placed anyway, and i didnt want to wreck her, if she slid into a xcountry fence and then tried to jump it and something happened i would never forgive myself- and the rain was as heavy as ever, so we called it a day and came home. dont know if that was the right thing to do, but mum gave me the choice so i said i wanted to withdraw.
so yeah, bit of a rubbishy day really
