I "think" Reds lump may be a haematoma.

Unbeknown to me until a few days ago about the same time as the lump appeared my friend said he was nipped on the nose by the horse in the stable next to him. Proceded then to dip his nose in his water bowl which she found very odd and a soft lump appeared.

I thought it may disapear but it hasnt and its now hard.

Vet is coming out a week tomorrow for another visit and im tagging on, is there anything i can do to treat it?

It has been there for about 3 weeks doesnt affect riding, although he has been a little irritated when blowing hard presumably because the skin over the lump is being streched, so i havent done much canter work (he is unfit!)

Any ideas, help or advice anyone?

My chap had a haematoma on his belly. I used to cold hose it for 5 mins (thankfully this was in summer) then rub arnica gel over it. It went from fluidy to hard and then just dispearced over about 2 weeks as it was reabsorbed. Not sure how it would affect a leg. Maybe it takes longer as the leg is being used, where as W's belly wasnt (apart from eating!)

Its actually on his nose!! Like a little hard lump!

Im going to get the equissage on it tonight and see if that helps (if he will let me) and put some warm towels on it to help it break up

If its not a haematoma im presuming this wont affect it anyway doing these things.

Thanks for your reply and advice, much appreciated

Id imagine thats nice on the horses body but might tickle his nose, be careful hes not too head shy.

As i said, i just used arnica gel and it gradually reabsorbed back into the muscle/fat.

My horse got kicked quite recently and has developed a haematoma on her quarters, never dealt with one before, it's been there at least a month now and I'm wondering if it will ever go? My friend's horse had several on her quarters and they are still there 12 months on. Now moved my horse to a different field, prob was I think turning 2 mares out with 4 geldings of which 1 mare & 1 gelding were pair bonded & the mare got nasty with my mare. Tried telling yard owner to seperate mares and geldings but to no avail...
