My last Haffy I had to ride treeless as he was so wide. I am thinking about going treeless with my new boy too as he is so flat topped and even my fitter saddle moves all over the place.

What do you all use on your horses?

Thanks

I have a saddle company saddle for my boy. He is so flat back & wide. I had to have the saddle made to measure as just couldn't get anything to fit & I wasn't keen on the treeless saddles. The lady that I had out to do my saddle said she has never had to have one made so wide as it's xxxxx's wide (you did read correct 5 x's )

I have just spent the last two days fitting saddles for my boy but to no avail! I have ended up using a really old leather saddle which came with him but is ancient! I am going to try out the thorowgood cob and wintec next. It is odd as the extra wide arabian saddle company saddle which fits my pb welsh is actually too wide on him and slips badly from side to side, it's that shaller slope that's the problem. I tried a treeless one and hated it! Gallop endurance came close but pinched at front. I will be watching this thread with interest!!

I have a 14.2 9yo Haffie mare. Flat as flat can be on the back, no withers.

Backed her in a Treefree Dartmoor (v good treeless)

Since then (5 years) have ridden her in a Thorowgood cob XW saddle. Brilliant once girth reasonably tight and used with a Kieffer neoprene girth which is comfy lux she goes very well in it. 4 girth straps which helps it stay in place. The seat is a bit hard on my old backside so have recently installed a Heather Moffatt seatsaver.

For leather luxury I also have recently treated her to a nearly new Ideal Highland and Cob XW VSD saddle yum.

Both fit her very well, tho as she's lost weight in the last few months (needed to!) the Ideal is slightly low at the front (very secure fit tho) so will prob use a small riser pad. The Ideal is if anything slightly wider sizing than the Thorowgood.

My last mare was a haffy and I had her in a wintec, she actually changed gullet sizes a couple of times a year depending on the grazing etc so I found it great for that.

Nugz is in a WoW with a no.3 headplate which is equivilent to an average XW fitting.

Love it as it can fit him regardless of his size with a quick zip of a drill.

But Nugz does have a wither, just it hides a little bit when he's not being worked :D
