My horse is kept on livery at a riding school.

I was standing by his stable stroking him and one of the kids who rides there came up and asked who's horse he is, when I replied "mine," she said "wow you must be rich!"

I replied, unfortunately no, she asked how I afford it, "by working" I replied!

If only it were true and I was rich and didn't have to work :p

I know, you tell people you have a horse and they turn round and say 'you must be rich' - my response is 'no, I have a horse so I have NO money' hehe, realistically I've not had a holliday in about 8 years to afford my horse - it's all about choices

I've come across two types of horse people - those with buckets of money who don't have to worry about the bills and those who scrape or work super hard to afford their one horse and give up loads to have the privilage of a horse - both can be equally nice or horrid, thats got nothing to do with it tho

Haha - I'm certainly not rich! We live on beans on toast most of the time just so we can pay for neddy!

I'm self employed, and pay my son 50p for every dog walk, muck out etc where he comes along willingly and 'helps' - trying to install some work ethic!! :D

I can see it from the rs kids pov. Kid probably desperate for a pony, & parents can't afford it. Therefore because you can, you are well off. Our two cost a large % of my disposable income. Which might be low, but at least I have a disposable income, some don't. Sukistokes, what's the kid meant to do, get a ft job that fits in with school? Rather a sweeping statement about kids you've made. I could equally say teachers are all lazy, miserable, & lacking people skills based on one or two I've met. But I'm intelligent enough to know they are the minority. Perhaps if all the kids you teach are like that, you might need to review your motivational skills?

Sort of kids you'd like to encourage by giving them a few yard chores in turn for rides or lessons... :D

Exactly horseloaner! (I'd be awful at a rs though, even on the last big livery yard I was on I had what ym used to call my bridesmaids. At a rs I'd end up with dozens. They'd have to ride double!)
