My horse often gets eaten alive by flies, and was bitten very badly over the past few weeks despite a rug and fly spray.

The bites have scabbed over, but as the scabs fall off a clump of hair seems to come off with it. This makes no difference to his body but the worst of the bites were around his face, and as a result he now is loosing quite abit of hair around his face and eyes leaving him with bald patches which look awful

Has anyone experienced this or something similar and how can i reduce the effect or help the hair grow back quickly?!

Nasty! you could try and rub camrosa or Cornucrescine Hoof Ointment in for the hair growth, to stop it I think the only thing is a fly mask & fly rug?

my boys often scab up and the hair falls out, never really had a face issue but he does wear a full mask for his suncream. I tend to put sudocrem on them for a bit (this also stops them spreading if you can find them early on) as I am sure they get a little bit infected which lets the reaction spread. and then leave them alone.

I believe they were slightly infected.

He was wearing a full fly rug with neck cover and still got bitten., but he hates a fask mask and I left it off thinking he would be fine. I was wrong!

The flies bit him alot around the face, in clusters so as the hair falls out its falling out in the same places leaving patches. Not good as I show him. Its hard to describe but basically where the fly bite was there is a orangey scab which falls out easily along with a small clump of hair. They dont hurt as far as i know.
I am currently treating the bites with aloe vera and sudocrem so hopefully they wont spread any more and the hair will grow back!

sounds like the bites got infected thats why the hair is coming off with them bath them in salty warm water then apply aloe vera cream to the infected area!
