hair loss???

my GSD X is losing hair on his nose and under his jaw, it started of as the size on a 5p coin but now is about 2ins long by 1ins wide, and hes got bald patches now on top of his nose...

he is scratching at it so i dont get why hes still losing hair. when i spoke to the vet about it, she said it looks like a tick would have been there and its the skin healing after that, but that was about 2 weeks ago, and its not got any better.

what do u think is the cause of this?

Did the vet not do a skin scrape? It should have been done as a matter of course to eliminate mange or other dermatological conditions. Quick, easy, and cheap.

Could be an allergy (food, pollen, household product etc) or a skin infection, with a number of triggers. My local vets were completely ineffectual in dealing with this so I changed to another. Agree a scrape should have been taken.

I'd nip it in the bud now if you can, believe me, you don't want it to get as bad as my dog.
Treatments might include antihistimine, steroid gel, medicated shampoo etc.
