My 20 year old ID x TB is really hanging onto his coat this year. He's bright eyed and lively enough (ridden regularly) but he's not shedding the fluff as I would expect.
Anyone else experiencing this problem ?

Yes, if you look in the PG of the pictures I have posted of my old black mare, she too is really clinging onto her wooly coat this year, and she is 27!
I have left hers to drop naturally though, she isn't ridden and doesn't wear any rugs, so I just guessed when it got warm enough it would all drop off!

The older my 30+ year old got the hairier he went, even his summer coat was thicker than it was when he was younger and he looked like a sheep in the winter, so much so the local sheep dog used to stalk him like a sheep and ignore the other ponies, poor old guy lol, just had to do loads and loads of scraping and grooming and it would come out... eventually. I think its think its normal for it to take longer to come out as they get older, keep scrubbing and sure it will be out soon, goodluck

I've just clipped my shettie right out as his was almost all still there. Another of my two still have some on their bellies hanging on..

Yep, but my mare is only 7, so I can't even blame her age

She's nearly lost most of her clip lines, but still has a hairy back

My mare is an 11yrd old Welsh cob x, and for the past 3 years has really held on to the bit right on top of her bum.

She's a darkish bay, and the old coat turns bright ginger, so it really stand out - I'm showing her in hand too at the moment - she looks a right scruff!

Mine has had a cushings test, plus she isn't curly!! I think this weather is just odd, my gelding still as rements of his saddle patch too!

Mine too.

Shetlands still have their coats but it's coming out in handfuls again now rain has stopped and it's warmer.

Yeah, my 2 older ponies really hold their hair nowadays (21 and 18yrs) - I clipped both of them about a month ago, one hunter clipped (shes a shetland and was getting very sweaty) and the other just a trace clip. Works perfectly.
