I've let the horse be hairy this year:( He is now starting to lose his hair but the hair on the legs and beard are not budging! Should I shave his legs and beard or does it fall off naturally with the winter coat?? AND how do i get rid of dry mud that is literally stuck between the two front legs and won't budge! Should I shave that too??

same with mine. shes not particuly a shaggy horse. but she was left hairy and shes is malting and not on her legs.
as i have 3 weeks till we show i trimmed her legs, beard and bum with sissors but only cos shes not being seen in public soon.
also try a shedding blade for the mud.

I chopped Ethels beard off as it was annoying me, kept getting sticky and I'd end up accidently ripping hair out when undoing the noseband. Her legs I rubber curry comb and the hair is coming out well :) she loves it as she gets itchy legs

I take feathers off with a pair of trimmers - start on a longer length then go shorter - takes a couple of attempts to get him looking good especially after winter but he looks better with them off rather than on :)
