half chaps - how tight?

Ummm - I have a very silly question...

I always wear long boots but have kindly been treated to some lovely jod boots and half chaps. I have ridiculously skinny ankles for my size. I'm a ten with thinnish calves (fat thighs tho!) And the chaps I have are slightly baggy around the ankle. I currently have them in a small. Is this right or should they be snug around the ankle? They're tight everywhere else?

Should I get a smaller size? Felt ok in the shop but the guy said and extra small might do too. What arw yours like and how much ankle support is needed?
Gin if you can assist?

Mine are baggy all over, v skinny legs, I just wear long thick socks under them to fill them out a bit so they stay put. Try the smaller size, but if they're too tight elsewhere just stick some thick hiking socks on to fill out the ankle a bit.

Ah thick socks! The holy grail of cold feet and skinny ankles!

Thanks littlelegs (I see why that's your name!) :)

I'd go for the smaller size, they can give a bit and if you start off with baggy ankles you could end up with them twisting round when you ride. Which is a huge annoyance!

I'd go for the extra small if I were you! I used to ride in baggy chaps then switched to tighter gaiters, the fit feels more supportive and the better fit looks smarter! Plus my chaps were only baggy around the ankles, this caused them to twist around while riding

I find that Tredstep or Mountain horse half chaps are great for skinny ankles. They come in much more tailored lengths rather than just small, medium, and large. You need them to be snug around your calves and your ankles.

I always buy them so tight that I can just get them on they give with use so if they are baggy when new they will be too baggy when worn in.

Aha - I never thought of them twisting around! Ill try the smaller ones on an if they don't cut off the circulation to the rest of my leg will swap. :)

They look snug everywhere apart from the ankle at the moment. X
