Which ones?

Not competing, I'm just taking riding lessons weekly..
I want to start wearing breeches, because I've noticed it's younger riders that wear jodphurs.

I have a pair of paddock boots, and I am not going to splurge on some tall boots.

I like the look of the half chaps, they seem more.. casual?

What should I go for?

I live in breeches & have long boots for RC/Hunting, vague comps.
Half chaps are at the yard & I use these occsionally for sloppy hacking, or over winter yard boots for a quick one round the block, they are pretty ancient but are like a pair of old slippers - comfy but roomy :)
Usually am wearing gaiters for much of my riding tho, actually find them better all round than top boots or half-chaps :)

I'm 43 and wear jods.....does that mean I'm a younger rider?

Gaiters for competition - half-chaps for everything else.

I didn't mean anything by it!
Where I ride I seem to be the only person above the age of 14 in jodphurs. They were also a little hard to find in adult sizes, so I just assume.

But thanks all, I'll probably get some half chaps.. if I want to get more serious with my riding, I'll probably invest in gaiters or long boots.

Sorry I forgot a big grin - I was rather pleased to be considered a "younger rider". Not like that old fuddy-duddy TFF who lives in breeches :p :p :biggrin3:

The cut is different so really its a matter of preference. Breeches are also a lot more expensive so parents tend not to put kids in them! Having said that I personally prefer beeches to ride in as they fit more closely at the lower leg. But then I wear Johds for yard work etc as they are more comfortable! I'm surprised you're finding adult johds hard to source. There are loads available. If it is because you are looking for a larger size or longer leg try places like fuller fillies. Otherwise any on line retailer will have johds in adult sizes. Half chaps that don't match are more casual - and probably cheaper. But you can lovely leather half chaps as well os gaiters. try places like Just Chaps and look at the range! Play and have fun. Its OK to be casual - even if you are older like me! (Although I do draw the line at pink or sparkles...)

Oy! I missed this earlier!

I'll have you know that I resemble that comment :p
(but I do have a couple of pairs of jodhs that I wear in sub zero temps, with my Grasmere boots)

I used to love Jodhs, as they went over the top of my joddy boots and did not let the shavings in when mucking out. Nothing upsets OH like a shavings shower in the kitchen when I take my boots off:mad:

I also found I could fit Jodhs into long boots or half chaps/ gaiters as I had skinny legs :D So, no chafing when riding:)

Now, I am of a certain age, and I buy long breeches, and put up with the shavings shower :( because jodhs no longer fit inside boots or gaiters/half chaps.

So, maybe Jodhs is about being slim not more.......mature shape!

Well, I'm certainly not slim. I have rather thick ankles, but I wear jodhs with tall country boots around the yard.

I'm probably going to go for some half chaps, I feel like I'll be more comfortable in them. Although I can try on both at the shop, and decide there.
Once I decide whether I want to try taking my riding further (competitions etc) I'll look into gaiters or tall boots.
