Half necks/Wug - do they stop the dreaded mane loss?

My second hand Rhino Wug arrived today (yay) and it fits nicely, it does look as though it may do its job of not rubbing her mane out as I think it sits more loosely round her neck - only time will tell I guess.

Has anyone used Wugs or half necks specifically to limit mane rubbing and how did it go? If there are success stories I may just have to invest in a half neck turnout....

After having a count today I realise that in 2 years of ownership I have acquired 12 rugs.....

My name is Billie and I am addicted to Rugs.

I had my boy in a wug last winter and he kept his mane. I found though for him, he was losing his mane due to being covered too much. The winter before he was losing his mane and it was suggested that I take off the neck cover for a few days, which improved matters.

I'm not going to admit how many rugs I have for my pony...:o

I love Wugs, and have two T/Os. The first one I bought about 14 years ago and it's still going strong. The second one is even older, and was given to me by a friend when her lovely horse had to be pts. Neither have rubbed the mane on the two horses who have worn them, and they have remained waterproof throughout.

I've got 47 rugs and I can probably find a reason to buy another one, too! Just the one horse at a time, but I like one on, one spare and one in the wash. Bit OTT, but harmless . . .

I have made the decision this winter that unless it is freaking freezing my boy is not going to have necks on as he is an appy and his mane is half gone! We never use to hace necks on rugs and the winters were pretty severe if i remember rightly! I love rugs, especially weatherbeeta, would buy one in every colour if i could!!
